Windows 10: Keyboard unresponsive without USB-C Stick

One of my USB Type-C is misbehaving. I have something plugged in the problematic port for example, a dongle, when I start my laptop, the keyboard is unresponsive.When I have nothing connected to that port, once I get to the log-in screen and try to type my password, sometimes, I have to press multiple keys to get anything in the password field, sometimes pressing one key creates multiple hidden password characters on the screen. Once I plug in a dongle in that port, I can use my keyboard properly, and then I can take the dongle out, and the laptop will continue to work properly.Any ideas a

looks like all the ports are usb 3.0, i'll plug the keyboard to the back

 

Strange usb stick/keyboard issue

Sounds like the one USB stick may have some corruption issues or drawing too much power? One suggestion is that you could take the keyboard and plug in the back non 3.0 usb port? It is going to waste on a keyboard when you could have that slot open anyways for high speed transfers! Just a suggestion. Or also try copying the files all the one USB stick and reformat it and then copy the files back and try again. Hope the ideas help!

 

Installing windows off of a USB stick

Step By Step from vista:
From admin cmd prompt

1. diskpart
1a. list disk
2. select disk 1 (replace 1 with your usb drive)
3. clean
4. create partition primary
5. select partition 1 (replace 1 with your usb drive)
6. active
7. format fs=fat32
8. assign
9. exit

Copy Windows Vista's DVD ROM content to the Flash Drive

xcopy d:\*.* /s/e/f e:\ (d being your vista cd and e being your usb stick)

And that's it, boot off your usb disk
