    my laptop has recently had this issue when I press any of the following key from the middle row of the key board is followed by a repeating backslash but the backslash key no longer works and i updated windows and drivers and now the backslash issue is preplaced with a hash or pound sign #.     oem activation key

    If it is a UEFI Bios you shouldn't have to enter the key at all. If it is you will have to enter your key again and run activation. Even if you do swap boards the key will work.

    Windows 8.1 pro + WMC key activation

    So it will be fine installing 8.1 pro with a KMS key, then switch to my 8 pro key and it will activate ok?

    Maybe a daft question but why can't you just install 8.1 pro with the 8 pro key, or is it different keys for 8 and 8.1? seems silly when 8.1 is a free update anyway.
