Windows 10: Keys on keyboard make multiple characters

Not sure how to explain but some of the keys on my keyboard, example the "A" key makes "AZ". A good amount of the keys do this but the F1-F12 and number keys are fine. Keyboard register multiple characters

Hello,

I have a strange problem from the past 1 week. In my PC running with Windows 11 pro, when I press any keys in keyboard it register multiple characters. For example, if I press A, it gives AA or AAA. Same for all characters and keys including arrow and other keys. Any keys if I press it do multiple action, if I press page down button one time, 2 or 3 pages are scrolling. Like wise, all keys do multiple actions. Then I have done below troubleshoots and nothing make it works.

1. I have removed the keyboard driver and installed again. But same problem exists.

2. I plug the keyboard in 4 different USB ports and none helped. Same problem exists on all USB ports.

3. If I take this keyboard and plug it to another PC then it works fine. So no problem with the keyboard hardware.

4. I thought it may be a driver or OS issue and boot the PC to BIOS. There also same issue exist if I press arrow key one time, then 2 or 3 tabs are moving in BIOS screen.

So please help me, how to figure out what causes this problem and how to fix this. Thanks in advance.

 

Keyboard character key mapping

In summary, what I need to do is to map:

• key e0-34 to the "$" character (Shift-4)
• and key e0-33 to the "€" character (Alt-0128)

Voila.

I suggest you check if your keyboard is faulty. Connect the keyboard to a different USB port (if it is a USB keyboard) or a different computer.

If your keyboard is not a culprit, perform the steps below to disable Num Lock:

- Go to the Start menu to find On-Screen Keyboard, open the On-Screen Keyboard and check if characters are doubled when typing

- If the characters are doubled when typing, type a character to check if the Fn + Num Lock keys are highlighted while typing

- If yes, press Fn + Num Lock keys together on the keyboard to disable the active Num Lock and check if it helps.

If Num Lock key is active, it results in characters being typed twice.
