    Hello!


    Been at this since yesterday and the story so far: I should preface this, I have win10 asus n55jk notebook, and with bsod I cannot boot in safe mode.

    Windows 10 had only requirement to restart and update, other options were as usual. When I tried to restart and update it would start the update process and bsoddidn't note the error stopcode. Now it managed to recover a couple of times, and the recovery partition was visible as wellhad drive letter. But I wanted to do it all safely and did windows update error fixing via DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth followed by sfc /scannow

    CBS. log did show that there were some fixes made, but I just glanced over it to check if something was wrong in the first place and after that followed through with windows updater, it downloaded windows 10 home 20h2 cumulative and another preview update for framework 3.5 and 4.8 and some other things.

    After updates installed I restarted the computer and while it was updatingdidn't note the % it was at it bsod to kmode exception not handled and after that point I couldn't get into windows anymore.

    I tried using usb windows installation media stick to boot from it and fix the windows, but was given message that windows image was not found. Probably because it was trying to find it on the usb stick?

    After all that I have couple of questions: Is picking option to upgrade windows version from usb stick an option to try and fix the bsod?

    I also have made fresh windows install on ssd I had lying around, and now I can boot into filesystem, can I fix old windows image from here?

    Do I just resort to backing up all I can from old image and doing fresh reinstall, or can I straight up migrate all apps, settings, game save files etc. to current fresh install of windows?

    p. s. I would prefer to fix it rather than going scorched earth approach on my files and settings.

    We suggest that you try the workaround suggested on DonchakVS's reply on August 5, 2015 and check if it resolves the issue:

    Windows 10 - BSOD: KMODE EXCEPTION NOT HANDLED (cng.sys).

    Newly updated to Windows 10 Pro and now getting BSOD KMODE EXCEPTION NOT HANDLED. System in rebooting shortly after starting up. Any help appreciated.
