Windows 10: Lagging Issues with Media Player and Movies & TV App

When I play videos using media player or the Movies % TV app, I experience lagging issues. However, when I watch videos on Youtube and other websites, I dont encounter lag. Interestingly, I noticed that when I click on "Play as 360 video" or "Play in mini view" in the Movies & TV app, the lagging problem disappears. I would greatly appreciate it if someone could provide assistance with resolving the issue.

I realize that WMP and M& TV app is not working on your PC. I will try to help you with this issue.

As Windows Media Player is not able to access the file, suggest you to run this troubleshooter to check if that helps. Follow these steps:

• 
  Press Windows key + X and click on Control Panel.
  
• 
  Click on Troubleshooting and click on View all.
  

Select “Windows Media Player Settings” troubleshooter and run it to check if that helps.

Further, you may also take ownership of the file to check if that helps.

Follow these steps:

• 
  Right click the file and select Properties.
  
• 
  Click the Security tab, tap or click Advanced, then tap or click Change. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
  
• 
  Type the name of the person that you want to give ownership to, and then click Check Names.
  

Note: The account name for the person that you are assigning ownership to is displayed.

• 
  Click OK.
  
• 
  If you want this person to be the owner of the files and subfolders that are contained in this folder, select the “Replace owner on sub-containers and objects” check box.
  
• 
  Click OK.

Not able to run Windows Media Player and Movies & TV app

Movie & tv media player app in windows 10

to Liezl -- I am playing MP4, MPG, and WMV videos, and all those files and more are included in that app's play list according to another Microsoft site. Again I am using Windows 10 OS and Edge. All of "your" troubleshooting suggestions are geared to using
IE OS. Not one mentions Edge, and adapting some of the suggestions to this browser is problematic for me at least. Do I have to bring up IE to troubleshoot?

There is no error message of any type or form. The app doesn't work, and previous searches on line indicates that others have had the same or very similar problems with this app over the last 18 months, so I am not alone. According to the give and take,
few if any at all were able to resolve the issues, unless an entirely different player was downloaded. Oddly that was one of the suggestions given when the issues couldn't be resolved. Resetting this app proved useless. The setting button within the program
is very limited in nature and nothing more than a snapshot of the menu on the opening page.

In windows 10 os, when I open up the app file in settings, I am told that I can "move" or "uninstall" apps by clicking on the appropriate and highlighted button. When I open up the movies&TV app, that feature is missing. I opened up other apps randomly
and those highlighted buttons are there and operational. This leads me to believe that this app is bundled with other vital operational functions, so it can't be altered without removing or compromising the Windows 10 OS. Also, when I bring up the entire list
of installed programs in my laptop, movies&tv app isn't listed. There are however approximately 18 untitled Microsoft programs on the list. I assume this app is hidden inside one of those.

Meanwhile I am using Power to Go 10 media player. That app opens and reads everything without a problem. It does everything it says it will do. Yet Microsoft continues to recommend movies&tv as the go to app. Still I would like an alternate player.Do I need
to download a file converter program to use the movies&tv app. Or should I simply download VLC? Your thoughts?
