Windows 10: LANGUAGE PACK INSTALLED BUT BASIC TYPING AND HANDWRITING FEATURE FAILED: ERROR CODE 0x80070490

Hi Guys, I am asking for help with installation of the typing feature of windows. I am using English as OS default language but would like to add Simplified Chinese but I kept having this error. I am using Windows 11. I basically got a new laptop with recent update to windows 11 and now I am unable to type in the language I want.Ben.

Language settings error 0x80070490

Hello.

When I try to install the Japanese language pack on my PC, it fails to install the IME necessary to actually input Japanese characters using my keyboard. It gives me a notification which redirects me to the settings of the Japanese language pack, and when I attempt to click the download button under "Basic Typing", it stops after half a second to give me the following message:

"Sorry, we're having trouble getting this feature installed. You can try again later. Error code: 0x80070490"

This happened a week ago, so I'm guessing "try again later" isn't actually a working option here. What do I do?

im trying to download the Japanese basic typing/handwriting/speech packs but it keeps failing and when i click on more details it just opens manage optional features

I understand that you are unable to install the basic typing feature of Japanese language pack.

I suggest you to try uninstalling and re-installing the language pack and check if that helps. You can follow the steps mentioned below to uninstall the language pack.

1. Go Settings >
   Time & Language > Language.
   
2. Now click on the Japanese language and click on
   Remove.
   

Once the language pack is removed, refer the article to

Add and switch input and display language preferences in Windows 10.



However, as the issue is happening on Windows 10 Education environment, I suggest you to post your query on

TechNet forums, as they have dedicated support for issues happening on Windows 10 Education environment.
