Windows 10: Laplink Sync oddity - maybe

For many years Ive used Laplinks Sync Tools to synchronise files between desktop & laptop (I know there are alternatives but I've grown to know & love Laplink and its quirks, it does all that I need). But Ive always failed to synchronise my music folders, Laplink hangs.

So this morning I decided to try and see why.

By binary chopping the folders & sub-folders I found the first problem Kylie Minogue. One of the file names began with (, after deleting the brackets it synced. Later I found a folder beginning with also hung. After going through chopping away I was able to fix all the problem names and get the music folders to sync.

Generally it seems Laplink hangs when a file or folder name begins with a non-alphanumeric character, although Windows is quite happy with such a name.

I realise that for compatibility with other OSs avoiding non-alphanumeric is recommended, it seems Laplink is only sensitive to them at the beginning.

USB Port Oddities


Ok, let's see it with pictures step-by-step. First right-click on the USB device and select Update driver software:





Then select Browse my computer for driver software (LAST option) :





The select Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer (LAST option) :





Then select the standard driver from the list and click next:





Click next/OK as required to complete installation. Repeat the steps for all Intel USB devices. Finally click on each USB root device and press DEL to delete it, reply YES when asked. After deleting all USB root devices restart the computer.

issue with laplink express

Issues with Laplink transfer

I need a better option to transfer files. I am on the 39 hour of transferring files using Laplink and it is locked up with 1/4 of the files transferred. I am not happy with this product as I have had two computers running non-stop for 2 days and still
can't use my new one. Is there a better option?

Note to community - Laplink free version of PCMover is not doing the job. Maybe a version that cost $$$ is better.
