Windows 10: Laptop abruptly turning off anytime after waking up from sleep

I have a Dell Laptop.


Model: LATITUDE E6540

Core i7 - 4th Generation

8GB RAM

500 GB Harddrive

Intel HD Graphics 4600 graphics card

AMD Radeon HD 8790M graphics card

Direct X 12

Windows 10


Here is the problem description:


Whenever I put my laptop on sleep mode for any amount of time, and then wake it up, it turns off abruptly (not that proper shutdown). It just goes off. Now, this abrupt turning off sometimes let me use my laptop for some minutes after waking up from sleep, and sometimes it lets me use my laptop for a little longer - the range is diverse, but it is very highly probable that it would turn off anytime sooner or later whenever I wake it up from sleep mode.

I have tried many things to resolve this including changing PCI Express settings in Power Options and using powercfg -h off command in Command Prompt. I have also tried to change some other settings from power options, but nothing helped.


Thinking, it might be causing because of laptop's processor getting heated up or dust settlement on inner parts, I did also go to laptop repairing shop. They cleaned the dust and also applied the cooling paste on the processor and graphics card, but coming back to home, I realized that is not helping as well.


If anyone has ever experienced the same problem before and has resolved it too, kindly show up and guide me.

I will be really thankful.


Note: I also found the same problem when I was using Ubuntu on the same laptop before installing Windows 10.

Thank you for posting your reply. Apologize for the delay in response.

I suggest you to check which devices are configured to wake up the computer from sleep by following the steps below:

• Right click on Start icon and select Command Prompt (Admin).
• Type the command line below:

Powercfg /devicequery wake_armed

3. Check if the devices (Keyboard, Mouse, Ethernet cable) are listed.

If the system is not going to sleep and going to Hybernate, the only option to wake up is to press the Power button.

Using laptop as desktop - can't wake it from sleep with wireless mouse or keyboard.

• 4. Test waking from Sleep with the monitor connected to the laptop.
• 5. Disconnect the monitor from the laptop, reboot, then test waking from Sleep without an external monitor.

No luck with monitor connected. Disconnected the monitor, rebooted, then tested wake-from-sleep with no external monitor - no luck.
