  1. Laptop booted to new SSD without me changing any bios settings?

Just installed a new SSD in my laptop (which has only one SATA port) and when I turned it on and tried to load the bios… it just booted into windows! The computer recognises there is an SSD installed and the performance is better. Is this a feature I just didn’t know about? I always thought you had to select the boot drive in the bios.

    New SSD wont boot

    Hi John

Boot into BIOS, is SATA Mode set to AHCI to enable booting from an SSD drive?

Is the SSD drive set a top of the Boot Priority list?

Did you try connecting that SSD to the SATA Port normally used by your old HDD?

  3. BIOS SSD Priority

I am going to change out my HDD to a SSD. Right now the BIOS does not have a SSD listed in the BIOS boot priority. Does the SSD show up in the BIOS after the SSD is plugged in? Or is there some command prompt that I can use to add SSD prior to plugging in the SSD?

Migrated os to new ssd and it won't boot properly

    Hi Dylan_14,

I am Jaspreet Singh an independent advisor.

Have you changed bios settings to boot from the new ssd?

If yes try rebuilding boot record as listed in steps here :

It might be a good choice to check partition layout/format in your new ssd to be sure they are same as Hdd.

** If willing I would recommend a clean install over cloning as newer updates for windows cause a lot issues during cloning that makes it not worth the effort over a clean install.
