Laptop cannot get a higher internet speed via ethernet cable.

I've got a modem/router with both 2.4ghz and 5ghz connection where in our phones can get about 90Mbps both DL/UL speeds and 180Mbps DL/UL speeds respectively on 2.4ghz and 5ghz. However, our laptop can't get higher than 90Mbps. At first I though it was the older Cat5 LAN cable so I replaced it with a newer CAT6 LAN cable but get the same results.I personally prefer the ethernet connection because aside from less latency, I also can't connect my laptop to the 5Ghz.I think I might have an idea why this is happening but I'm not entirely sure.Thank you all for the help.

    :)

slow internet speed through ethernet(high speed internet connection), and disk usage as high as 100 percent

i have an ethernet connection for using internet. i have 2 windows 10 , version 1607 laptops. When i plug the ethernet cable in one laptop, i can use internet at the speed promised by my service provider(2mbps). I have checked this speed in task manager.

but when i plug in the same ethernet cable in other laptop, internet speed in task manager shows very little speed near about 50 kbps. and this too doesnt remain constant. the speed varies very rapidly between 0-100 kbps. suppose first i saw 20kbps, then
in next second it goes as high as 100 kbps..and then in the next second it shows 0kbps..remains 0kbps for a few seconds, and then again speed picks up for a few seconds.

One more key observation, whenever internet speed grows, my disk usage grows as high as 100 percent. And then internet speed slows down.

Whenever i connect this laptop(the one i am using ) to internet either through ethernet/wifi...even with higher speed connection, though i get a bit higher speed, but i have observed a lot of fluctuations in speed in task-manager, performance tab, the graph
rarely stays straight(constant), it just forms a triangular shape, it as if a connection loss is taking place every 4-5 seconds.

A month ago, this PC was working well.

  3. Sudden Downgrading of Internet Speeds

Since last Thursday (29th October) my desktop computer internet speeds have dropped to 10% or less than previous. Normally I have been getting the following (non fibre broadband):

    ping 25 -80 ms; Download speed 17 +/- Mb/s; Upload speed 0.87 Mb/s

    The speeds have dropped to:

    ping 165 - 1896 ms; Download speeds <2.0 Mb/s; Upload speed 0.0 - 0.02 Mb/s

I have checked out my router (ISP provided), my ethernet cable, and my wi-fi internet connection. All work as previously when connected to my laptop (Dell Latitude with Intel Core i7-6600U @2.60 GHz 2.80 GHz) giving me the higher settings listed above.
I have replaced the ethernet cable with a brand-new cable - to no effect. I re-installed the drivers to the ethernet hardware - to no effect. I have added a USB wi-fi connector to my desktop (thus by-passing the ethernet input socket), again to no effect.
I would appreciate any constructive suggestions.

Something, somewhere (hardware, software or setting?), is "choking" my internet input into my desktop computer. My desktop specs are:

    Intel i9900K @ 3.60 GHz, nVidia RTX 2080i (11 GB DDR6 RAM onboard), 32 GB DDR4RAM, 2TB HDD, 1TB SSD, 500 GB SSD, ASUSTek Z390-Plus Mobo (LGA1151);

    Ethernet cable settings

    Hi Campbell,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

Please reply to the follow questions to get a better understanding on the issue:

    • What is the model number of your laptop?
    • Do you have a yellow exclamation on the network icon after connecting the cat 7 cable?

However, you can follow the troubleshooting steps from
Fix network connection issues in Windows
    .

Also, I suggest you to check the laptop manual or laptop manufacturer to know whether the Ethernet port of your laptop supports cat 7 cable.

    Hope it helps.
