Windows 10: Laptop can't shut down properly after 2025-06 Windows 10 update KB5060533

I installed the new Patch Tuesday updates KB5060533, 2025-06 cumulative update on multiple Windows 10 devices today. One of them, an older Dell Inspiron, is no longer able to shut down properly after the update.When I give the command to shut down, it appears to start shutting down, but then takes me to the login screen with airplane mode inexplicably turned on. If I try shutting down again from there, the same basic thing happens in an endless cycle.I tried pausing updates and uninstalling KB5060533, but after the uninstall and accompanying restarts, it appears the update is still there. Windows 10 doesn't shut down properly


I have a laptop ASUS Zenbook UX303LN. I made a clean install to Windows 10 and now it doesn't shut down properly.

When I shut it down, the screen goes black, but the power light remains on and I have to shut it down manually. Also, I sometimes cannot restart it when it goes to sleep and I also have to shut it down manually. This doesn't happen everytime, but most of the time. I previously had Windows 8.1 and did not have this problem. Actually, I'm considering changing back.

The OS and drivers are all up to date.

I have research this issue and the most common fixes are:

• Uncheck the "Turn on fast startup (recommended)"
• Use a shortcut for "shutdown /s /t 5"

I've tried both and the problem remains.

• Have you made any recent changes on your computer prior to the issue?
• Is this an error message Explorer\windows\settingsync\BackgroundUploadTask? If yes, where are you getting this message?
• If possible, can you send us a screenshot?

Meanwhile, we suggest that you run the Power troubleshooter as an initial troubleshooting step. To run the Power troubleshooter, follow the steps below:

• Press Windows key + X and select Settings.
• Choose Update & Security from the list.
• Click Troubleshoot in the left pane of the window.
• Under Find and fix other problems, select Power
  and click Run the troubleshooter.

Windows 10 Pro (fully updated) will not shut down properly

I appreciate if you could answer few questions to narrow down to the issue.

• What is the make and model of the computer?
• How exactly are you shutting down the computer? Is it from Start menu?
• Did you try shutting down by pressing and holding the power button?
• Did you make any recent changes to the computer settings?
• Did you plug any external device to the computer?

I would like to inform you that it is bit difficult to pin point on the exact reason behind the issue unless we get the answers for the questions asked above.

As an initial troubleshooting step, I suggest you to press and hold the power button and check if the computer able to shut down completely.

If the issue persist try unplug plug the charger\power cord from the power source and check if the issue persists, this may also arise due to any fault in the power source.

If the above steps doesn’t work, I suggest you to check if the fast startup option is enabled.

• Access control panel by right clicking on the Start menu.
• Choose Power options.
• Select Choose what the power buttons do and check if it is enabled.(Disable it if enabled)
