  1. Laptop continually boots into recovery mode. Cannot recover.

    Hello,

Last night I put my laptop to sleep and closed the screen.

This morning when I woke up, my laptop booted weirdly I presume into recovery mode asking me what keyboard language to use. It then presents me with 6 different recovery options; Startup Repair, UEFI Firmware Settings, CMD, System Restore, Uninstall Updates and System Image Recovery.

I've tried Startup Repair, but it fails every time. I've attempted to uninstall updates but Windows says it can't find any. System Restore fails every time and Windows says it can't find a system image to recover from.

In CMD, using chkdsk tell me that is has found problems and recommends using "chkdsk /f" but I'm worried that I will lose data this way.

Pressing F8 allows me to run an advanced hardware diagnostic. It passed with no failures or concerns.

I can post the results of chkdsk and the F8 diagnostic if it's relevant. Also, when I use CMD it says its in the X:\ drive but I don't have an X:\ drive. Not sure if that's important.

Is it possible to backup my SSD before I do "chkdsk /f"? Is it guaranteed to work or will I potentially lose data if I don't back up?

    Many thanks for your help,

    Ross

    :)

    laptop doesnt boot automatically

    This is what happened.

    1. Did a repair install and later disabled hibertnate in CMD.
    2. Enabled legacy option ROM in BIOS.
    3. After a few times startup ( i used the system in such mode for 5 days), changed boot option back to default.
    4. Vola!! It boots automatically to win10 without any keypress. Tested it with many starts to confirm the same.
    5. Re-enabled hibernate option using CMD and later selected Fast Startup.
    6. System booted normally, without the need for any keypress.

I do not know exactly whether such steps resolved the problem or what else happened, hence cannot suggest above steps.

Many thanks to all members who helped to troubleshoot problems.

    Booting up laptop problems

    Hi Austin,

This issue occurs when there are broken components on the boot configuration data of your system. To troubleshoot your boot loop issue, we suggest that you boot in safe mode through
the Windows Recovery Environment option. To do this, follow these steps:

    • Turn on your computer. When the Windows logo appears, unplug and replug the device. Perform these steps three times.
    • On the fourth instance, turn on your device without unplugging it. The Windows Recovery Environment window will appear.
    • On the Choose an option screen, click Troubleshoot.
    • Click Advance options.
    • Click Startup Settings.
    • Click Restart.
    • Once your computer restarts, you will see a list of options. Press the F4 key to start your computer in safe mode.

Once done, we suggest that you perform a system restore after booting in safe mode. System Restore will be able to revert your PC or laptop to their previous state, which can be used to repair and recover system malfunctions or issues. Restoring won’t affect
your personal files, but it will remove apps, drivers, and updates installed after the restore point was made. To do this, follow the steps below:

    1. Right-click the Start button, and then select Control Panel.

    2. Search Control Panel for Recovery.

    3. Select Recovery > Open System Restore > Next.

    4. Choose the restore point related to the problematic app, driver, or update, and then select Next > Finish.

Feel free to post back if you need further assistance.
