Windows 10: Laptop does mini freezes when I switch from APU to GPU

Hi, I have AMD Tuf gaming laptop, It has MUX Switch, so basically when I turn on a game it switches from APU to GPU, now I don't have problem when I'm playing the game but when I want to minimize it, the screen freezes for about 10 seconds and then goes on, but It does not stop sometimes it freezes every 15 seconds, When I'm playing the game It's never a problem, but for example when I open Adobe Premiere Pro it switches from APU to GPU again and this time the freezes are every 5 seconds and sometimes they dont even stop, how can I fix this?

windows GPU switching between AMD and NVIDIA cause random mouse freeze

I got a new legion 5 2021 model with r7 5800h and RTX 3070

I'm facing an annoying problem, I investigated it and found it was there about three years old Laptop Freeze Problem but not work for me

Laptop mouse freezes for a fraction of time in these cases and me be more, but these I'm facing for now

I think its because windows handle GPU switching now

I need to know if it's a hardware or software issue? as many legion users not facing it

1. randomly happens when press right-click on the mouse

2. When press shutdown always happens

3. randomly when opening the action center

4. randomly when opening display or graphics settings

5. when windows come from screen off mode its freezes for a few seconds with lower brightness then back to work with the normal brightness



I Tried

1. Clean Windows 10 20h2 install with Lenovo recommended drivers for both GPU

2. this problem only occurs when both graphics are enabled so when I disable RYZEN GPU and work on NVIDIA all works fine and when disable NVIDIA and works on

RYZEN all works fine also



one suggest using this tool GitHub - jobeid/TrayPwrD3: Keeps dGPU on but idle until needed. This addresses the Windows 10 stutter/mouse freeze on dual GPU laptops. TrayPwrD3 runs in the background and stays in a tray icon. Other functionality: single click turns monitor off; provides several menu options on right click. to fix it and I tried it and it's working great no more mouse freeze but it's not the best solution as it keeps the NVIDIA GPU awake

gpu freezes my laptop

Hello i own a dell m4800 laptop for 2 years now and it was working fine

this month i had a weird problem that happen while i was playing a game and the problem is that my laptop got frozen and it wouldn't let me do anything then i restarted the laptop and it kept on freezing after entering windows so after a few restarts it worked fine until i left the laptop for a while and it entered sleep mode i tried to wake up the laptop but it kept on black screen so i tried a few things like entering safe mode which and disabled some stuff and i ended up disabling the gpu and the laptop worked again but ofc without the gpu working

so i thought it was a hardware issue like the gpu slot got dusty or something so i took it apart and reapplied thermal paste and cleaned the slot and the gpu then it worked fine for about 2hrs and the problem happend again this time i installed a fresh windows and tried to install the gpu driver but it kept on freezing my laptop and couldn't let me do anything so i removed the gpu driver i installed from amd website which btw makes the windows think that the gpu is from the 200x series and thats not the right model of the gpu

i tried downloading the the driver from dell website and it worked fine for about 1 week then the issue happend again while i was playing a game so i thought to myself that i could just redo the thing i did before by uninstalling the driver then downloading it again from dell website

but this time it didn't work even after doing many things such as

reinstalling windows with formatting all the drives

cleaning the gpu and gpu slot

also a little note is that when i uninstall the device (gpu) from the device manager and do scan for hardware changes it automatically install a driver for the gpu and it works for like 1-5 seconds then the laptop freezes and when i restart it with the power button it rollsback and the driver isn't there anymore

right now the gpu is sitting as microsoft basic display adapter and not working

any help would be appreciated because i really need this gpu to work because not only i play on it but i also use it for stuff related to my work

 

GPU-Z 0.7.8 / 0.7.9 / 0.8.0 Bios reading not possible GTX670-solved with gpu-z 0.8.1

@Maban - does GPU-Z fail the same way for you the way it does for me? I.e. total system freeze/lockup, requiring a hard reset?

@W1zzard - I will try the suggested steps later today, as I am not near that PC at the moment.
