Windows 10: Laptop freezes and becomes unresponsive at random time while gaming

After crashing and not forcing shutdown, I have realized that my NVIDIA graphic card could not be used and the AMD graphic was used instead, causing significant performance drop and I couldn't use NVIDIA for better performance anymore

DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION BSOD. After restart, laptop freezes and is unresponsive when running games.

Got a BSOD and DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION error code. After force shutdown, laptop freezes and is unresponsive whenever playing games.

 

Random freezes

My computer is freezing randomly. It becomes unresponsive and I have to do a hard shut-down. It is completely random, sometimes it happens when I'm gaming and sometimes when the PC is idle or just using the browser. Sometimes, I can use the PC for several hours without it freezing, other times it freezes after 10 minutes.

I have done a complete re-install of the windows system but it didn't help. I do not know why it freezes, but this problem began after the latest windows update which was released this month (October 2023).

Any help would be appreciated!

The first step is to identify the category of issue you are facing. We will define four categories of behavior for PCs that become unresponsive, as follows:

1. Hang: Your PC becomes unresponsive whenever you do a specific set of steps, and you must restart to recover the PC.

2. Random Hang: Your PC becomes unresponsive seemingly at random, and you must restart to recover the PC.

3. Generic Freeze: Your PC becomes unresponsive for a period of time, and then becomes usable again without taking any action. You don't need to restart your PC for it to be usable again. This behavior seems to affect all apps.

4. Single-app Freeze: Your PC exhibits the same behavior as a Generic Freeze, except that it only occurs when running a specific app, such as when playing a game or browsing websites.
