Windows 10: Laptop HostName keeps changing

We recently bought a new laptop, an Acer running Windows 10. For some reason, the HostName keeps changing slightly. It started out as a generic name in the format LAPTOP-XXXXX, but frequently modifies that to add a random number on the end, as in "LAPTOP-XXXXX-20" or "LAPTOP-XXXXX-9". Is there a setting somewhere that I need to change to fix the hostname to something constant? It's a bit of a nuisance when I want to assign the device to a particular person for screen-time/downtime monitoring, etc.

Changing the hostname on Windows 10

Is there a problem if I change the Hostname on a windows 10 pro laptop. I have no software that depend on the current hostname.

 

How to change E71 hostname (SCCP, VoIP)

I have tried to configure SCCP VoIP on my Nokia E71 for access to corporate VoIP network.



Configuration received from VoIP administrator:

• Cisco VoIP server name
• "device name"
• pin

I've enter configuration parameters into phone (excluding point 2) and unsuccessfully tried to connect.



In my opinion device name is my phone hostname and I should to change it.



How to change phone hostname???

• Nokia CC Cisco installed
• Bluetooth name changed to "device name"
• Googling does not help

Does anybody know about same SCCM VoIP issue on Nokia E7 and Nokia 701?

 

Hostname wrong

hostname, on a unix box, is absolutely local..

if I change the hostname on my workstation to wibblewobble no other machine on the network knows..

If I change the host identity on my DHCP client on my workstation other things might know..

I'm still not getting why you need to change the hostname..

What do you think won't work unless you don't do it?
