  1. Laptop monitor can't run at 240HZ anymore, black screen

Hello, looking for some help regarding this mystery. My laptop is a ROG Strix G512LV_G512LV with the processor: IntelR CoreTM i7-10750H CPU @ 2.60GHz 2.59 GHzThe laptop's monitor has been running at 240HZ ever since I bought it in 2020, but just a few days ago, the monitor started glitching out and now stays black when running at 240HZ. When changed to 60HZ, the monitor comes back to life. Also to note, the laptop used to be a windows 10, but is now a windows 11 due to updates.I've tried removing recent updates, but nothing. Re-installing updates, updating drivers, re-installing NVIDIA Gef

    :)

  2. How to keep 240hz refresh rate on new monitor

This is my situation. I have a MSI Stealth GS77 gaming laptop with an HDMI 2.1 output that I have an external monitor connected to. The monitor is a 1440p Asus ROG PG279QM. The monitor has several HDMI 2.0 inputs and a DP 1.4 input. The monitor is capable of a 240hz refresh rate. Everything I have read says that a 240hz refresh rate is supported at 1440p over HDMI 2.1, but not HDMI 2.0. I currently have the monitor connected to the laptop using an HDMI 2.1 to DP 1.4 cable. I am currently getting the 240hz refresh rate. I was getting it the other day and updated the BIOS on the laptop and lost the refresh rate. It dropped back down to 144hz. For some reason, I am able to get the 240hz refresh rate after the computer resumes from sleep. I was wondering if anyone knew of a way for me to lock in the 240hz refresh rate so I don't lose it again in the future? Any help would be appreciated.

    Toshiba Laptop Black Screen

I have a Toshiba Laptop, Was reinstalling windows 7 on it last night left it doing the updates then shut it down. Turned it on this this afternoon only to find the laptop screen is Black and also there is a burning smell coming from the Fan.

I connected the Laptop to a external monitor that is fine, Can go into bios, Windows boots up fine Etc.
Just took apart the laptop earlier to check all the cables where in correctly, Checked the motherboard over for any damage, burnt bits but but found nothing. Just put it back together now but im still getting this burning smell and i still cant use the laptop screen only a external screen.

I Tried Pressing FN+F5 to switch to the laptop screen, But still black screen. Any Suggestions please ?

    Thanks

How to keep 240hz refresh rate on new monitor

Hi Jeffrey. I'm Greg, here to help you with this.

    1) The converter cable is often the weak link. It would be better to use HDMI output on PC since you have it on the monitor.

    2) The Display driver is so important that merely updating it might not be enough. Try everything here to make sure: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/for...

    3) If not then try these fixes to troubleshoot can no longer get 244 hz refresh rate from Windows 11 laptop on capable monitor:

    https://forums.tomshardware.com/threads/240hz-d...

    https://www.groovypost.com/howto/enable-a-dynam...

    https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/forums/gam...

    https://greenvalleygaming.com/why-is-my-240hz-m...

    4) If nothing else works then I'd ask in the Asus ROG forums which will have others familiar with the monitor and issue:

Home - Republic of Gamers Forum

Let me know if you have any questions or I can help performing any of the above steps. Based on the results you post back I will have other steps to try if necessary.
