  1. Laptop not sending signal to External Monitor if 120hz or higher is selected

    This behavior did not happen up until after installing the 2020H2 update.

    The External Monitor which I use it as Primary Display Device to my Laptop does not receive signal after booting/restarting Windows (when the prompt for login shows, both screens remain black - because the screen with the login only shows on the Primary Display Device).

    Workaround is to either:

    1. Select a lower refresh rate for the External Monitor (anything lower than 120hz will result in normal/expected behavior);

    2. Select the Laptop's screen as Primary Display Device; (doesn't work anymore - External Monitor still not waking up);

    1. Blindly type the log-in credentials after boot-up and using Laptop's screen to change refresh rate to 100hz then back to 120hz for the External Monitor;

    2. Unplug/plug back in the HDMI cable.

    System specifications:

    - External Monitor: Samsung 32inch WQHD 144hz Curved (Model: C32JG5x)

    - Laptop: Asus Rog Strix Scar (Model: GL703GM) - with a screen refresh rate of 120hz - non-change-able)

    - Windows: Version 20H2; SO version 19042.906

    Expected/prior behavior:

    - using refresh rate of 120hz on both displays and having the 2nd monitor (Samsung) used as Primary Display Device.

    P.S.: the HDMI cable is not at fault here, as I've checked with a back-up cable and experience the same behavior.

    Anyone else had this issue?

    Laptop + Monitor resets where to send signal to laptop instead of 4k monitor when restarted

    None of that worked.

    I do not use a converter.

    The monitor will not accept 4k signal through HDMI port only 1080P.

    With the batch file:

    It send duplicate of laptops settings to external monitor which means it will be only 1080P also.

    Why can't windows just remember what settings I have to send all info to the external screen every startup?

    Can't get Fortnite (any game) to run on 120fps on laptop. 120hz monitor, 2 GPU laptop.

    "both the 120hz monitor and the 60hz laptop screen are using the weaker GPU ( Intel UHD Graphics 620)."

    Ah! I missed that both screens are using the Intel UHD gpu. Was thinking you were getting 60 Hz using the Nvidia gpu.

    "I get about 140 Fps on low-medium settings."

    Same resolution on both monitors as well ? Certainly a whole lot higher frame rate than the review running @ 1280x720.

    "...trying to change the Monitor output to the stronger GPU"

    - I don't use laptops, and don't know all the ways to force games to run on the dedicated gpu, but I would be inclined to disable the laptop monitor while troubleshooting the problem. This will take it out of the equation, and insure the external monitor
    is identified as monitor #1.

    - Are you able to open Nvidia Control Panel when running on the external monitor ?

    - Are you using a driver from the mfg of or your laptop ? The driver supplied by the mfg of the machine is generally the most suitable.

    - Intel graphics does not support 120 Hz, so if the game is launching on the external monitor using the Intel UHD graphics Windows

    will automatically switch the monitors refresh rate down to 59/60 Hz.

    When this happens, even if the Nvidia gpu does take control when you sort out why the games are not using it, you will need to

    re-set the monitor to 120Hz.
