My laptop a MSI P600 running an upgrade to windows 10 about 3 years ago from windows 7 has stopped taking keyboard inputs. This first occurred in about sept 2020 after it had auto updated to new edge. I had the IT people at work look at it and they could not fix it.. They thought my problem was that I did not have enough RAM 4 GB . I turned it on when I got it home different times for the next couple of weeks leaving it on overnight sometimes and after about two weeks it started working again. This happen again in october it quit again and I had a tech from just answer.com come in over the internet and fix it after cleaning up the computer and working on it for 6 hrs online. He removed the last 3 auto updates, removed chrome and new edge and reinstalled them-no help. I think what finally fixed it was running ctfmon , but I am not sure. Ayway it auto updated again the same updates the next night and quit taking inputs again. I left it on overnite on and off for about a week and it started working again on its own when I tried it. It auto updated again on Nov. 10th "Windows Malicious Software Removal tool x64 v5.84 KB890830" and right aftter thaton Nov. 11th "2020-11 Cumulative Update for .net framework 3.5 and 4.8 for windows 10 version 2004 for x64 KB4580419". It also has been doing an update for windows defender antivirus every day for at least a month and a half "Security Intelligence Update for Microsoft defender antivirus KB2267602 version 1.327.706.0" I have left the computer on all night for the last week and it has not fixed itself again. Something in the auto updates is causing this. I don;t think the 4GB raam is the issue as it works fine when it fixws itself. I tried to run the suggested fix C:\\Windows\System32\ctfmon.exe.3 but you cannot enter it as when you press the windows key and r the cursor locks up when the box to enter it in comes up. A copy and paste didnt work either. What can I do to fix new edge, chrome and firefox to take keyboard inputs? I am working on the computer doing this on internet explorer. The mouse does work to do email reading on new edge, just no keyboard inputs or it locks up. Help please, I am not a computer whiz.

microsoft edge keyboard not functioning, but keyboard works with Chrome and FireFox

Today when I attempt to use microsoft edge as a browser my keyboard is not functioning on the search line, but the keyboard works fine when I use either Chrome or FireFox as my browser.

I had to use Chrome to access this question forum.

Anyone have a suggested solution or reason for why Edge is being funky?

Very annoying.

Cortana, Windows Edge, Start Menu, and other input fields not accepting input, but all other programs like MS-Word are fine.

Hello. A laptop with Windows 10 Home has a bizarre problem where the Cortana. Edge browser, and other input fields within the operating system don't take keyboard input. Yet all other programs like Microsoft Word or the Chrome or Firefox browsers all operate
normally.

Looking at the other older threads on this problem did not solve this problem so I'm opening a new thread that isn't locked as I found a working solution and want to share what worked for me.
