Windows 10: Laptop plays usb plug in sound continuously even though nothing is being plugged in

Hi, recently my laptop has randomly, with no apparent activation signal, started playing the usb plug in sound on repeat every 3 seconds. nothing is being plugged in, tried plugging a usb into all the ports and unplugging, nothing changed, tried restarting, shutting down and then turning on a few minutes later, unplugging the powercord, nothing changes. the sound still plays and my screen goes black and green every time the sound plays. its still doing it even as i'm typing. its been going on consistently for almost 20 mins now and is getting really annoying. any help?my laptop is an acer a515

Speakers playing when headphones are plugged in

I have an HP laptop with windows 10. When my headphones are plugged in, the speakers are still playing. When I go to sounds, the only device listed is the speakers. How can I silence the speakers when the headphones are plugged in.

I have an Acer Aspire 3 too, though mine has now upgraded to Windows 11.

Many would give their eye teeth to be able to turn off that beep. *Biggrin

This seems to be a uniquely Acer thing. All Acer laptops seem to make that beep when the power is connected/disconnected, and there is no obvious setting in Windows or the bios to turn this on or off. Following the trail of those trying to turn it off suggests this is where you need to look:

In your case of course you need to make sure the Realtek HD Audio Manager is fully enabled rather than muted.

I've tried it on my Acer Aspire and can confirm that muting the Realtek HD Audio Manager (or Universal Service as it appears in W11) does indeed turn of that beep, quite independently of all other system sounds or audio output. Settings has a quite different layout in Windows 11, but still has all the same settings as Windows 10. This is what I see in W11's Settings.

LG plug and play portable DVD writer GP55EX70

I have Windows 10 system on ASUS laptop. When I insert plug and play LG DVD writer into USB port, I hear sound alert that a device is connected but do not get any pop up recognizing the new device or asking what software I want to use to open/play. Laptop
bottom screen tool bar does not show the new devise either. And when I want to eject, the Show Hidden Icons does not list the devise. The manufacturer, LG, states this is not a driver issue as devise has built in plug and play feature.

I moved devise to multiple USB ports on ASUS but same result. I plugged devise into another laptop and immediately get the pop up screen asking what software to open/play, and was able to play DVD.

I assume this is a Windows issue on my laptop. Does anyone have a suggestion for a fix?
