  1. Laptop replacement - issues with app transfer - different windows versions

Hello,My main laptop has been a Windows 10 for home Dell XPS. The laptop developed a hardware issue doesn't prevent current use but ultimately requires replacement. Thankfully I was covered under a support package. Due to unavailable part, the laptop is being replaced lucky!.The replacement laptop is pre-installed with Windows 11. I am in process of transferring all my files and software to this new laptop prior to wiping and returning the faulty one. Both laptops use the same microsoft account, I have microsoft 365 for family and can have the extra device. Most of the transfer has bee

  2. XP replacement for aging laptops

If Windows compatibility isn't a requirement, I recommend Linux Mint for those laptops:
    • It is available in 32-bit and 64-bit architectures.
    • There are different editions that have different GUIs/desktops: Cinnamon, MATE, KDE, Xfce. Mint is not a "one size fits all" o.s.
    • The Xfce edition was specifically designed for machines that have lower-end hardware: slower CPU, less memory, not-so-great video.
    • The installers are "live" discs: you can boot the PC from disc, load Mint, and take it for a spin without touching your hard drive. This will let you check if your hardware is supported. If you decide that you like it, there's in Install icon on the desktop.
    • Linux Mint comes with a wide range of software preinstalled including Firefox, Thunderbird, LibreOffice, Pidgin, and GIMP. Additional software that isn't installed by default can be downloaded using the package manager (think "App Store").
I installed the MATE edition on my sister-in-law's 4-year-old Lenovo Thinkpad, and Mint nailed down all the drivers without any help from me. It runs great, and her laptop is a lot more secure than it would be with any version of Windows.

  3. USB Transfer to Laptop

    Hello Judy,

I suggest you to copy all the files to a flash drive from the laptop.
You may create a new folder on your desktop and name that folder as per your choice.

    • Perform the steps to transfer the files from laptop to desktop.

    • Plug in the flash drive and wait for it to get detected.

    • Now, open the flash drive and Right Click on the files that you want to transfer and select “Copy”.

    • Now, open the folder on desktop and Right Click on an empty space in the folder and select “Paste”.

    • Similarly, you can transfer all other files.
As per the file size you can also use an external drive instead of a flash drive and transfer the data.

Hope this helps. If the issue remains unresolved, please get back to us and we would be happy to help.
