Ok, I will be offline until tomorrow. Maybe someone else will chime in with some suggestions for you as well.

Hi, in your first screenshot I noticed:

    1. HostAppServiceUpdater using a lot of resources.

As your laptop is Lenovo, I'd guess it's the first. I suggest you disable or remove this for the moment.

    2. IAStorIcon.exe using a lot of disk resources
Does your laptop actually use a RAID configuration?

Could you please add your disk details to your specs?

    3. McAfee is causing problems- you said at one point you had disabled it. Please do so- and if you wish, disconnect your internet whilst it's disabled.

Then, with your PC nominally idle, please post a screenshot of
    a. Your task manager with Disk organised high to low
    b. As WOT asked, your Resource Monitor including the lower Disk Activity pane.

If there is still significant disk activity, please do a clean boot.
    Then repeat the screenshots.

    Thanks.

    laptop runs at 100% disk

Good morning, if it's still morning where you are.

Some good news to report, I disabled Intel Delayed Launcher and Conexant Smart Audio and it dropped the disk usage to 60%...much better! I also stopped the Host App Service Updater and I noticed the disk usage dropped to normal levels much quicker, another good thing. The Host App Updater reloads on startup so how do i deal with that?

Geesh, never thought I'd actually solve this.

Afternoon.. been putting some beans in and tidying the garage.

If it's not a hardware issue (failing disks can lead to apparent high disk usage), it should be possible to identify misbehaving or conflicting software.

Think of it like this. If Safe Mode works ok (basic drivers, usually- but not always- only Windows running), and a normal boot (with everything you and/or the manufacturer has installed does not, start by thinking 'how does one simplify things and reduce what's running when booting normally' to a state where disk activity/CPU use/internet use (or whatever the problem is) is acceptable.

    A process of elimination.

    Something on the Intel software.
Intel Delayed Launcher - Microsoft OS Forum - Software Operating Systems - Dell Community

    1. Why do you have Intel® Rapid Storage Technology installed?
Does your laptop actually use a RAID configuration?
Could you please add your disk details to your specs?

    2. You should be able to have- and should have- Conexant Smart Audio running if that's what's appropriate for you.

    3. host app service updater: first try to identify it.
Have you installed or ever installed a start menu by Pokki? That's one possibility.

Go to the exe, rt click it, Properties and check Details. That should tell you where it's from.

If it's Lenovo, then the latest version is here:
Lenovo App Explorer for Windows 10 (64-bit) - Desktops and Laptops - Lenovo Support

Decide if you want to keep it - if not, uninstall it.

When you've resolved the above, with your PC nominally idle, please post a screenshot of
    a. Your task manager with Disk organised high to low
    b. As WOT asked, your Resource Monitor including the lower Disk Activity pane.

Thank you for the process of elimination description dalchina, and again thank you WOT for your help. I did follow the link and read how the Delayed Launcher plays a security roll. I believe now that's there more work to be done on the process of elimination side of things, quite frankly something I was afraid to get into, mostly because I didn't know how to execute the process. I'm going to go ahead and Mark as Solved as I believe I'm on my way to finally putting this issue to rest.

    Thank you!!

Ok, good- just keep asking 'Do I need it?' 'Why is it there?' Not everything a manufacturer adds is useful- trialware... and some things cause problems.
