Windows 10: Laptop says its using a virtual network adapter I have no ethernet port and no way to get...

Computer suddenly is saying I'm using a virtual network adapter which of course I am not I have spent so many hours in the last several days chatting with Microsoft support that have done absolutely nothing to help me. My laptop has a USB c Port that is it no ethernet port that's I have absolutely no way to get online and they keep insisting I get online and do certain things which I can't do I just need to somehow select the network adapter for my Wi-Fi. This is clearly a known and pervasive problem

Thanks for the suggested solution which I tried. My feedback:

• Update download was completed but installation did not complete and the message popped up that stated that update is not compatible and cannot be installed.

• Are you experiencing the same issue even when you are using another Ethernet cable?
  • yes, tried different cables
  • (also same ethernet cable & connection works on my mac notebook)
• Have you made any changes to your computer setting before this issue occurred?
  • Can't say with certainty about changes, if any, made. Normally i don't fiddle with the laptop systems.
  • ethernet port was working just fine and suddenly became dsysfunctional about two weeks back.
  • Checked Network adapters in the device manager which highlights Killer E2200 Gigabit Ethernet Controller with a yellow mark. Also checked network adapter driver which states that installed driver is the latest.

 

Hide Virtual Network Adapter

How can I avoid not to seeing Virtual Network Adapters in the other word hide them among Network Connection List normally has only Wifi Adapter,Bluetooth and Ethernet Card. Thanks.

Hi Sayan,

I too, had uninstalled the Microsoft Hosted Network Virtual Adapter, since I was unable to create a hotspot from the computer. After restarting, I was hoping for the adapter to be visible/present in the device manager, as it happens when we
uninstall a USB Controller.

However, after restarting, the adapter is not seen in the Network adapters list, and also not found under the
Other list, as you suggested above. This was checked after enabling view for hidden devices. Also, there is
no yellow alert symbol near any adapter.

I have also restored the computer to an earlier restore point, but the adapter is still not seen !

Since, the Microsoft Hosted Network Virtual Adapter itself is not found in the list, there is no way to update the driver software for it.

Hotspot creation has worked for me many times since I've upgraded to Windows 10, and I need it to keep working as before.
