Windows 10: Laptop screen won't come on when opening lid, does come on with a full power down and reboot

I am having problems with my screen not coming on when I open the lid of my laptop.

This is only when the computer has been in sleep or hibernation. However if I just let the screen go to sleep without closing the lid it will wake up fine. If I long press the power off and then re-start it works fine obviously losing anything I have been working on.


I have plugged into an external display and the screen does appear on there but I do not have the option of defaulting to the laptop screen i.e. it thinks the external display is the only display.


I have tried reinstalling/ upgrading all of the drivers on the pc including the graphics, display, keyboard etc.


I recently installed the 2004 update and am not sure if caused it.


Also all of the advanced power plans went missing but I managed to get these back by following a forum on here.


Some people have suggested modifying CsEnabled in the registry from 1 to 0, however CsEnabled is nowhere to be found.
