Windows 10: Laptop sleeps suddenly and frequently

    Laptop sleeps suddenly and frequently


    This has been happening more and more of late. I really want to identify the issue and I really hope its a software issue and not hardware. My laptop screen will suddenly turn black, and after a few moments the system turns off. When I press the power button it loads the BIOS and then I'm back where I was with all my programs open and a notification that says "Your battery is very low, plug in your PC now". However I run my PC plugged in, and I have unplugged it and let the battery run out in about an hour just to see if it would help. It has not. So I checked the event viewer and there is

    Windows 10 putting laptop to sleep too frequently

    Hi Ian,

    Kindly provide us the following information to better assist you:

    • When did the issue start?
    • Any changes prior to the concern?
    • Does the issue happens only in battery mode or even if it's plugged in?
    In the mean time, access Power & sleep and check if settings are correct. To access
    Power & sleep, follow the steps below:

    • Click the Windows logo (Start button).
    • Click the gear icon (Settings).
    • Select System.
    • Choose Power & sleep.

    Hibernating laptop changes to sleep behaviour after Windows 10 May 2019 update

    Hi Aditya,

    Thank you for your reply. I have tried the two steps (turning of Hybrid sleep and Fast startup) you suggested but to no avail. Okay, for your two questions:

    1. My laptop is a HP Pavilion 14-bf101tx, and currently running Windows 10 1903 (upgrading from 1809).
    2. Nope. No error messages. I suppose the boot process was successful, however, my battery was reduced. That's why I suggest the post title as "Hibernating changes to sleep behaviour" because the battery level reduction looks like sleep behaviour.

    Please inform me of any diagnostics information you might need. Thank you for your kind assistance.
