Windows 10: laptop sounds like when mail comes in but it happens when i close a tab at the top

Could you tell me why and how to stop the laptop from sounding when i close tabs in the browser, chromeit's the same ding one gets when a mail arrives in aoli asked aol about it and as ususal they were of no helpand since it's coming from the laptop not aol i thought you might be able to helpthere wasn't a suitable topic to pick so i put input thank youPaula

Sound comes out of laptop instead of TV when viewing a DVD

Sorry everyone, I forgot to come back to say I solved the issue! I did it like this:

• Right-click speaker icon in the tray
• Click on "Sounds"
• Go go to the "Playback" tab"

There are two speaker devices listed:

1. Digital Output (with a TV icon)
2. Speaker/HP (my laptop speakers)

I disabled Speaker/HP, and then Digital Output automatically took over, which made the sound come out of the TV.

Problem solved!

Sound coming from both the laptop and headset in Windows 10

Method 1

I suggest you to run Hardware and Devices Troubleshooter. Follow these steps to run Hardware and Devices troubleshooter:

• Press Windows key + X and select Control Panel.
• Select Troubleshooting.
• Select View all on the top left corner.
• Click Hardware and Devices.
• Follow the on-screen instruction to run the troubleshooter.

Method 2: Uninstall and reinstall the Sound driver

I suggest you to try uninstall the Sound drivers check if it works for you.
Follow the steps to uninstall the Sound drivers:

• Press Windows Key + X key and click Device Manager.
• Expand ‘Sound, Video and Game Controllers.
  
• Right-click on the Audio devices listed and click on ‘Uninstall’.
• Select the option to Delete driver software.
• Restart the computer after its uninstalled.

Try to access the device manufacturer's website and download and install the latest chipset and sound drivers.

Close all Tabs


You didn't mention what Web Browser you're using, however from your description it sounds like you are using the 'X' in the top right of the Web Browser to close the webpage, rather than just closing the tab the webpage is in.

Using the 'X' in the top right of the Web Browser, will close the entire Web Browser including all tabs, hence why you get the message asking whether you want to "Close All Tabs". So instead, try using either the back button to go back a page, or if the back button doesn't give you the option to go back a page due to it being 'greyed out', then use the 'X' in the tab itself to close just that one tab.
