I'd rather not have to do that since I've spent so much time getting it close to how it was before the reset. If I attempt any of the repair/recovery options - e.g. resetting it with or without keeping files, uninstalling feature or quality updates - it just says it ran into a problem and nothing works. If I

Critical Service Failed - Automatic Repair and Advanced Options

    Update:
Tried the Repair disk. Still back to "Your pc ran into a problem", "Preparing automatic repair" followed by Advanced Options which have been tried again.

    Would anyone recommend:
    • bootrec.exe /rebuildbcd
    • bootrec.exe /fixmbr
    • bootrec.exe /fixboot

Otherwise, I have a bootable Win PE file waiting to be burned on to USB key, as suggested by other Forum user, but unsure what to do with it when (or if) it boots up the laptop.

    Hello Sarah,

I'd like to verify if you're computer is still stuck on Preparing Automatic Repair state. If not, I'd suggest to perform the steps below:

    2. Select Troubleshoot > Advanced options.

    3. Choose Command Prompt, copy and paste the commands below and press Enter the after each line:

    • bootrec.exe /rebuildbcd

    Looking forward to your response.

    Regards.
