Windows 10: Laptop Stuck on Boot after Windows Update

Hi All,


Tech Stack: Windows 10 1909 OS Build 18363.778;


I noticed lately that if I boot my laptop after a Shutdown on the previous day it just gets stuck on Manufacturer's Boot screen; In my case I have ASUS ZenBook and my device does not go any where else other than being in the Screen where it shows Manufacturer's Logo. To overcome this, I have to forcefully shutdown the device by holding on to the Power button and switching back it again. I have noticed on the 2nd try it boots, but I see a loading circle unlike in my first attempt before I was able to see the username and password screen.


This behavior was noticed after the following Windows Update got installed:

1. KB4552152
2. KB4549951
3. KB4537759 I uninstall this then it worked fine, but after it installed again this started again
4. KB4541338
5. KB4537572
6. KB4497165

In the Event Viewer I noticed the following:

1. Event ID 6008\EventLog: The previous system shutdown at [date and time] was unexpected
2. Event ID 41\Kernel Power: The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed or lost power unexpectedly.
3. Event ID 5719\NETLOGON: This computer was not able to set up a secure session with a domain controller in domain.
4. Event ID 7023\Service Control Manager: The MessagingService_9a182 service terminated with the following error: The device is not ready.
5. Event ID 1129\GroupPolicy: The processing of Group Policy failed because of lack of network connectivity to a domain controller. This may be a transient condition. A success message would be generated once the machine gets connected to the domain controller and Group Policy has successfully processed. If you do not see a success message for several hours, then contact your administrator.

I have given the device a proper shutdown, but it always give this problem when I switched back.

Windows Update Stuck

Updating my laptop which I haven't used for 6 months.
I go to Settings, Update and Security, and there are a list of 10 updates, 2 of which say pending install, the others say pending download. Left laptop on overnight and still saying the same this morning.
Ran Windows Troubleshooting Updates twice, both times found no problem.
Have good Wi-Fi signal. Have re-booted several times. Now stuck. Can you please suggest how I get round this please.

To understand the issue better, I would like to ask some questions:

• Is the computer stuck in the Installing updates screen?
• For how long is the computer stuck in the screen?
• When was the computer last updated?
• Is the screen showing any percentage of installation?

Sometimes the installation might take a long time to install if the update is of large size. So, I suggest you to wait for sometime and check if the system boots to the desktop. If it is taking a longer time, then perform a Power Drain by following the steps
provided below:

• Shut down the Computer.
• Remove all power source (including battery if it is a laptop).
• Press and hold the power button for 15-20 seconds.
• Connect the power source and start the computer.
• After the computer boots to the desktop, suggest you to install all the pending updates.

Toshiba Laptop Stuck at Boot Menu

Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I understand the inconvenience you are facing with the laptop which is stuck at boot menu.

1. What is the model number of the laptop?
   
2. What is the error you have received when you try to boot the computer to desktop?
   

I suggest you to follow the steps mentioned below and let us know if that helps.

Method 1

Unplug all the external devices and then try to boot the computer to desktop.

Method 2

Unplug the AC adapter to your laptop. Remove the Battery. Hold power button for 30 seconds. Then leave it set for 15-20 plus minutes (Letting it sit longer won't really help to much) and then just plug back in ONLY AC adapter and see if it shows the
hard drive in the BIOS.

Method 3

Start your PC in safe mode

I suggest you to refer the article “Start your PC in safe mode in Windows 10”
for the steps.

If the issue still persists I suggest you to refer the article Recovery options in Windows 10
for more information.

Note: This article includes Reset your PC and
Use installation media to reinstall Windows 10 as the options. I suggest you to ignore these options, since there is a chances of data loss. This will remove all your personal files, apps and drivers you installed, apps and customizations from
your PC manufacturer, and changes you made to settings.
