Laptop to PC homegroup transfer slows to a stop after 5 minutes

    Hello

When I try to copy and paste files from one homegroup PC to another it starts fast (60mb/s) but within a minute or two it starts to slow down and after about 5 minutes stops completely and windows tells me there is no network connection. I then can't use the internet at all until I either pause or cancel the transfer. This happens when using my laptop on the wireless connection (my desktop is connected by ethernet), if I plug the laptop in to ethernet it stops the transfer almost instantly. I don't use any third party internet security, only what comes with windows 10 on both computers.

Any help would be much appreciated, I use my laptop for work and then need to transfer files to my desktop regularly but at the moment it is a almost impossible.

    :)

  2. Windows 10 Pro Extremely slow Data Transfer and Complete PC becomes Very Slow

During copying files even small size (Say about 500 MB), Windows 10 suddenly drops speed after about 30 seconds to 10 KBPS and then many times to Zero. This transfer process thus becomes extremely slow and along with that the whole laptop becomes extremely
slow - Example during transfer to open My Computer takes 3 minutes to open and finally the PC hangs. If no data transfer is happening the laptop works perfect but only after reboot. Once data transfer has started the whole PC slows down and works normally
    only after reboot.

Homegroup and Sharing Problems after Windows 10 installation

    Hi,

I need some serious help on this one, as I am unable to run my backups across the network to my backup PC.

The problem is that I had four PC's in a HomeGroup. Then I upgraded all four PC's to Windows 10.

Now, the HomeGroup will not work. If I try to join a homegroup, it tells me that there is a HomeGroup on the PC where it was before the upgrade. So, it tells me to join that one, and I try, it thinks about it for 5 minutes, then asks for the HomeGroup password.

I give it the password, and it thinks about it for a further 5 minutes, after which it tells me there is no HomeGroup on that PC and I should create one.

Problem is, when I try to create one, it thinks it can still use the original HomeGroup, and so starts looking for it again....

I have tried all of the basic stuff, like TroubleShooters, which cannot seem to find anything wrong.

I have also tried to share the root directory of the PC that used to own the HomeGroup, and that is unsuccessful too.

Is there any way to get rid of this broken HomeGroup and create another, possibly on another PC.

    Thanks,

    Bryan.

Could be your router locking up after the data increase via network, which router do you use?

Thanks for your reply. The brand is Alcatel-Lucent, I can't find the model number or anything as it is covered in stickers from our ISP and we were never provided with the manual or box. I was afraid it would be a router issue as we have no access to the router settings. Our ISP won't provide us with the password.

It never used to have a problem but has become terrible since I completely reformatted my desktop PC, which gives me some hope that it is not the router. I have read in other forums about ghost homegroups causing a problem, where one or more of the connected PCs used to be connected to a homegroup which no longer exists. I wonder if that is the issue here? If so I'm not sure what to do about it.

is the network card Driver from the manufacturer's website or left what Windows installs even?
Will in start run or press Windows + R and type GPEdit.MSC > > > Administrative Templates > > > Network >>> QoS Schedule package and Mark as enabled and bandwidth leave at 0

Thanks for the advice. I followed your instructions (on both PCs) and managed to get a transfer to work on a bundle of files about 4GB. It only worked if I was sat at my desktop and navigated to my laptop and copied the files across, if at my laptop trying to do the transfer I had the same problem as before. Although the transfer was quite slow (1-5mb/s speed) it worked. I then tried again with a larger group of files (around 30GB) and again within about 2 minutes the transfer had slowed to a stop. I have hundreds of GBs of files waiting to be transferred, so using a USB to do it isn't really an option. I am really at a loss and appreciate your help.

I've just noticed that opening task manager shows that System task is using in the 40 -50mb/s range network usage and around 5mb/s disk use while the transfer is taking place, even though the transfer window is showing a transfer rate of just some kb/s.

Kinda weird, have to check if there is any system update occurring at that time that you are transferring the files.

Open the Task Manager and performance below open resource Monitor. Make sure that the connections in the Network tab
