Windows 10: Laptop WiFi not working. Doesn't show in network settings and device manager says hardware...

Idk what to do. I opened my computer and there was no wifi. Airplane mode is greyed out. Did googling and when I open up device manager I have to choose show hidden devices. Things like Intel (r) wireless-AC 9560 160MHz and Microsoft Wi-Fi direct virtual adapter #5 are greyed out and when I click properties it says "currently this hardware is not connected to the computer"

When I go to Network Settings and clock trouble shoot it says Ethernet 3 adapter is disabled, but I don't have an Ethernet port on my laptop.

When I click resolve problems as administrator it tells me to plug in the Ethernet cord but there is no slot for my computer. Any help

Network devices listed under Unknown in Device Manager


I have a Dell Inspiron M731R laptop upgraded from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 Home 64-Bit that suddenly quit connecting to the home network. Was using wireless, so switched to an Ethernet cable, but still no luck. I just discovered that ALL of the network-related devices are now listed under an "Unknown" tab in the Device Manager. A check of properties of each item in that folder says they are all working properly, but that obviously isn't the case. I tried uninstalling each of the 4 items, but when they are recognized again they still show up under the Unknown tab. Any suggestions would be welcome.

 

No hardware listed in Device manager?

I don't konw whathappend but in Device manager and in my Network connections there is nothing where there used to be a Modem listed and all my hardware in Device Manager. What happend and how do I fix this?

In addition to @Try3's advice, open Device Manager and see if the WiFi card is listed there under Network adapters. If it is listed, does it have a yellow warning triangle? If so, the updated driver should help.

If it is not listed, select View > Show hidden devices. It should be listed then. Check its Properties. Does it say "Currently, this hardware device is not connected to the computer. (Code 45)"? If so, the WiFi card has not been detected. It may be faulty or it may just need reseating.
