  1. Laptop won't detect headphones after update, won't automatically change output

Hi guys, I recently updates windows and have since realised that the jack no longer detects my headphones and switches audio automatically.

For example, before if i was listening to the audio on my laptop speakers and plugged a pair of headphones in it would automatically transfer to the headphones. But now If i do the same even after plugging in the headphones audio still comes out of my laptop speakers as if no headphones are plugged in. I've tried lots of things but nothing works. I know that my headphone jack is working because if I plug my headphones in and restart the laptop after restarting audio will come through my headphones from bootup however if i remove the headphones and plug them back in then it won't switch to headphones again which is very frustrating. If i want headphone audio i'll have to repeat the process of reseting my laptop

If anyone has a soulution please reply to this thanks

Laptop model is dell inspiron 7586 2-in-1

    Laptop won't detect headphones

My laptop is having really weird issues with detecting headphones. This is really creating problems for me, since I can't get any sound from my earphones when they're plugged in (the stereo works fine though).

When I plug my headphones into the earphone jack, the Realtek HD Audio Manager pops up to announce that I've "plugged in the device". And yet, when I go to "Troubleshoot sound problems", the "Headphones" tab states that there "The device does not appear
to be plugged in". So it seems like Realtek can detect my headphones but the laptop can't (which doesn't make any sense to me)

At first, I thought it was a problem of setting default devices, but in the "Playback" tab, under the "Headphones" option, it says "Disconnected". Nothing happens when I right-click on the "Connect" option. Basically, the "Headphones" option is enabled,
    but won't connect.

What does it mean the headphones are disconnected? Why won't it just connect when I click "Connect"? Is it because of this that the laptop can't detect my headphones? Any solutions to getting the sound back in my headphones?

  3. PC won't detect headphones

I have tried both front and rear inputs and still no success. My PC won't recognize my headphones being plugged in. They're headphones with a USB and 2 jacks (speakers and mic), and when plugged in the green light is active on the headphones showing their working/have power. Changing the connector to a solo jack, I can plug it into my PS4 / iPhone and it works fine. However on my PC it doesn't work, despite it working completely fine for 2 weeks until 2 days ago.

I've tried going to device manager and updating drivers, and I've also tried managing audio settings and making it my default device but the PC is not picking up the headphones exist, even after ticking Show Disabled Devices. In device managers, the headphones aren't under "Sound, video and game controllers", "Audio inputs and outputs", or "Unknown Devices" (as I have no Unknown Devices menu). I do not have RealTek Audio Manager. These are the solutions that worked for most people but not myself.

The events that led to this error was last night I was trying to watch a film but my TV (which is my monitor) speakers weren't working. After updating sound drivers and realising they were for some reason disabled, I re-enabled them and they worked fine. However, disabling them again does not fix the problem. The PC does not pick up the headphones at all, mic or sound. I do believe that it is an issue with the newest drivers I installed after upgrading to Windows 10 three days ago. The headphones worked fine on Windows 10, but I believe the issue is with the new drivers I installed to make my TV speakers work. Unfortunately I do not know how to fix this.

    Thanks in advance.
