Windows 10: Laptop won't get past bios startup screen, just blank black

Hi folksI've spent the past 2 days trying to fix my mum's alienware 17 r4 laptop which is about 6years old. That morning, it randomly turned itself off or so she says, and when she tried turning it back on it just... wouldn't. On power startup, we get the usual Alienware head logo, which disappears fairly quickly. and then... nothing.... just a blank black screen it's on, and shows black... and shining a torch on it doesn't show any trace of something behind it. There's no cursor, no anything. I went into the BIOS options, and ran the diagnostics from the f12 menu. This showed the full s

Laptop Goes to Black Screen at Startup

Hi Greg,

Unfortunately my laptop did not make it past step two. I've gone into my BIOS menu and had my installation media drive as the prioritized boot option with fast boot disabled, but I am still getting to a black screen after my manufacturer logo appears and
the circle spins. Attempting to reach the Advanced Startup Options menu by force shutting down the laptop three times in a row also led to a black screen. Are there any other options?

Hardware and software conflict is one of the possible reasons why you're experiencing black screen. Sometimes, it is also because of hardware failure. To get this issue fixed, we suggest that you
boot into Safe Mode by following these steps:

• Turn off your computer 3 times while booting. Windows should automatically boot to the Recovery Environment after 3 unsuccessful attempts in a row.
  
• Once you are within the Recovery Environment, select Troubleshoot, and then
  Advanced options, then Startup Settings, and
  Restart. When it restarts, you should see a number of options. Press 5 or F5 for
  Safe Mode with Networking.

Once your computer is in Safe Mode, please follow the workaround provided on this
link. Simply select the similar case that you're experiencing to show the troubleshooting steps.

Blank screen on startup...

I've got an old Gigabyte GA-8IPE1000-G motherboard lying around. But I only get a blank screen on startup. I get the ram beeps and everything, just no screen??

Any ideas on where to look for the prob?

Any help would be welcome
