Windows 10: Laptop wont go to sleep anymore

I have an Asus ROG Strix G732 17" laptop with an i9 and a 2080 Super running Windows 10. I've noticed that it won't go to sleep anymore. I've gone through every tip that google has tried to give me with no success, so I thought I'd turn here so I could explain what I've tried so far, and see if anyone has had a similar issue.

No matter if I close the lid, hit the power button, or let it sit for a while, it won't actually go to sleep. The screen will go dark and the keyboard lights will go out, but there is a lighting effect it does when its sleeping, which it doesn't do anymore. Its very rare that it does, and its usually if I try to put it to sleep shortly after turning it on. The fans also keep running like normal, so I know its not actually going to sleep.

I've checked all the power settings, and they're set to put it to sleep both when the lid closes, and when I press the power button, so the problem doesn't seem to be a setting.

I've also tried running command prompt with "powercfg -lastwake" and a couple others to see if anything was scheduled to wake it, or interfering with sleep. None of them gave any useful info. There was a period where it would wake back up immediately after I hit the power button, but now it doesn't do that, just doesn't fully go to sleep, so there's nothing triggering it to "wake back up". Something is just keeping it from sleeping.

Does anyone have any idea what this could be? The only thing I ever have plugged into it is a wireless dongle for a Logitech mouse. I even removed the drivers for that thinking maybe that was the issue, but it does it with no trace of the mouse.

This is really frustrating since it used to do it fine when I first got it. Now I have to shut down completely unless I want the fans running 24/7.

Any help would be appreciated. I can also reply with screenshots of settings and stuff if that'd be helpful as well. Thanks!

Why won't my laptop *sleep* anymore?

1) change the power options like the others suggested. Settings/System/Power & sleep/Additional power settings. Try programming the power button tap or lid close options to Sleep and Test. Screenshots here






2) if this fails, test turning Hibernation to Off by opening command prompt or powershell (admin) {don't worry, this is easily reversible}. Type powercfg -h off then Enter.
Confirm by going back to the 'additional power options screen and Hibernate will not be there anymore, like on my system screenshot above where I've had it off for years to disable Fast startup.
Try Sleep now (or better yet, after a reboot). If fixed, great. If not and you actually use Hibernate, simply replace off with on in the command prompt. Good Luck

 

ASUS Laptop Won't Wake from Sleep Mode

Problem: about 80% of the time, my laptop won't wake up from sleep mode via keyboard press or mouse move/click. I seem to be missing many common features in power plan too, even after fresh Windows 10 install.

Troubleshooting Steps:

1. Reinstalled Windows 10 (clean)
2. Updated all drivers
3. Replicated on multiple Windows 10 versions, updates
4. BIOS latest version
5. No USB devices attached, ever. Only USB-C power and bluetooth mouse
6. Disabled "fast startup" in control panel

 

laptop battery wont charge after latest update

1. Shutdown your laptop.

2. Remove the battery.

3. Connect the AC power adapter to your laptop.

4. Power on the laptop

5. Open the Device Manager by typing Devmgmt.msc into Start Menu or from Control Panel.

6. Under the Batteries category, right-click all of the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery listings, and select Uninstall (it’s okay if you only have 1).

7. Shutdown the laptop.

8. Insert the battery.

9. Power on the laptop.

If above suggestions wont resolve the battery charge issue then follow below steps.




Step 2

1. Shutdown the laptop.

2. Remove the battery.

3. Start the laptop with only AC adapter connected to laptop.

4. When you login to Windows OS connect the battery while Windows OS working.
