Windows 10: Laptop works with no HD

If I disconnect the HD from my PC it does not start.

But my wife's old Compaq Laptop, provided is powered on mains it works OK with the HD removed.
And the 3 partiotions I made originally on the HD are still visible & contain all the files & connects on the Internet OK.

The properties of its C:/ main partition show 145GBs.

How does it work without the HD where presumably I installed Win 8.1 & all the other programs & files.

And the same with my old Acer notebook.

VIA HD Audio driver no longer installs & works on Windows 10

Yeah I got the correct drivers from GIGABYTE's website. The newer model of this board uses Realtek audio I think, but my board uses VIA. I have tried forcing the driver installation through device manager already and it wasn't even listed despite the fact
I had allowed incompatible ones to be selected. Hmmm...

I see, it might be best if you roll back windows 10 from the Fall Creators update. I did some searching and it appears that VIA and the Fall Creator's update is known to clash at this time.

If you would like to try rolling this back, here are instructions.

Start > Settings and click on Update & Security.

Click the Recovery link on the left and then click on Get started under 'Go back to the previous version of Windows 10.'
