Windows 10: Laptops Battery Life Ruined By New Windows Update KB5005033

After a new Windows update that I installed two days ago, on 14.08, my laptop's battery life went down from 8 hours to 1.5 hours, and the CPU started to heat up. The update is the cumulative update for Windows 10 Version 20H2 x64 KB5005033. It basically ruined my laptop. My laptop is a Dell G15 5510 if that helps. Does anybody have a similar problem, or knows how to fix it? Is waiting for a new windows update and hoping for the best the only choice?

1. Shutdown your laptop.

2. Remove the battery.

3. Connect the AC power adapter to your laptop.

4. Power on the laptop

5. Open the Device Manager by typing Devmgmt.msc into Start Menu or from Control Panel.

6. Under the Batteries category, right-click all of the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery listings, and select Uninstall (it’s okay if you only have 1).

7. Shutdown the laptop.

8. Insert the battery.

9. Power on the laptop.

If above suggestions wont resolve the battery charge issue then follow below steps.




Step 2

1. Shutdown the laptop.

2. Remove the battery.

3. Start the laptop with only AC adapter connected to laptop.

4. When you login to Windows OS connect the battery while Windows OS working.

 

Battery Life on a new Lenovo Flex 15

In looking at your laptop specifications it says you should be getting about 8.5 hours of battery life. If you are not there are a few things we can do to see if we can increase battery life...

Step 1 - Battery Save

Windows 10 has a great new Video Battery Saver built in. If you go to Start > type in Battery Saver Settings > click Battery Saver Settings

At the bottom of that page you will see a link called Change battery settings for playing video, click that link

Make sure Optimize for battery life is chosen.

Step 2 - Run the power troubleshooter

Select the Start button and then type in Settings

Click Settings

Click Update & Security

Click Troubleshoot on the left

Choose Power

Run the troubleshooter

This may find ways to assist in battery life.

Step 3 - Run a Clean Boot Scenario and see if a service is possibly eating your battery life

Try using Netflix, etc - do you see a significant battery life increase from this?

Laptop battery issue

I'm pretty sure the E1505 has "speed step" on it. Double checkthe speed step settings to make sure they are set for long battery life, maybe it's somehow reset itself?
