    Large HDDs or SSDs?

Hi, There is an ongoing thread about changing drive letters and a question was asked. I didn't want to post my question there in fear of hijacking it. But what is the purpose of larger HDDs/SSDs?. There are some members who have really large HDDs, 3-4tb or more, internal or external used primarily for storage but why? Surely it's better to have a library of say 2TB external HDDs/SSD/s then cram everything on 1 unit and risk possibly loosing it all. Thanks to the advise I had on these forums, I recently purchased for my Grandson a 4tb internal HDD so he can store his games on, it is what he wanted so didn't labor the point and he is delighted and I understand the need for such large capacities when storing games. But for home use, storing films why do some buy huge HDDs and think it a good solution/idea for storage?

    :)

  2. Upgraded Windows Transfer from HDD to SSD

    Hi

My windows was upgraded from 8 to 10 on my laptop few years back. I was trying to get the HDD replaced with SSD. During the copy process, the technician said windows cannot be moved to SSD as it is an upgraded version from 8 to 10.

Kindly guide if there is a possibility to copy the windows to SSD ? If so, please suggest the steps.

  3. OS on new SSD, keep existing data on HDD and use as external drive

    Hi,

use steps you suggested, there should be no problem.

Just replace HDD with SSD first then run installation. Do not forget to remove Windows files from HDD after the end of a process.

  4. Large HDDs or SSDs?

    HDD vs SSD

HDD is a generic term. A SSD drive is internally labeled as HDD. It appears like your drive is a SSD. The Octane drive appears to be a SSD drive that is a large cache for the drive so the drive appears as SSD because of the cache is 100gb of SSD and the
remainder is a hard drive. However all the data passes through the cache so it appears as a SSD to the system. I think this is what is happening. It is my best guess.
