Windows 10: Last update forced surround sound sound for my games.

After the latest update my games seem to be in this weird surround sound state?
I loaded dragon Ball Fighter Z and during matches characters characters spoken dialog and sound effect will fluctuate in volume but the music is consistent. It seems like my 2 speakers are trying to emulate surrond sound but it sounds way to off and is way to distracting. I combed over my sound setting and could find anything to solve the issue.
Any ideas?

There are some reasons why you don't get the 5.1 surround sound. Some of these are caused by the type of audio format, how the file was encoded, if the file supports 5.1 surround sound and such. For us to determine what's causing
the concern more precisely, please provide information on the following:

• The type of file that you're trying to play.
• Troubleshooting steps done to rectify this concern

For now, before we go to a more in-depth troubleshooting, we suggest you run

audio troubleshooter. Look for Find and fix problems playing sounds.

Good surround sound headset

I know you say you're not that guy, but stepping into the $250+ range really brings a change in build quality that might have you never having to buy another set. Otherwise, getting 6 speakers with decent sound in a headset is hard, and that's what you are asking for, and I have no suggestions, but just a bump up the list. *Stick Out Tongue

 

Surround sound not working for some games.


I recently upgraded to Windows 10 and now find that certain games (such as Project Reality, the STALKER series and Killing Floor) do not have surround sound - only stereo. It looks as though there must be a driver issue as I never noticed this issue in Windows 7. The odd thing is there are other games (Elite Dangerous and Killing Floor 2) that the surround sound works well with.
Why is it just the older ones and how can I get the surround sound working again?

Oh and I am not using a sound card (just in case that makes a difference).
