Windows 10: Latency and Windows 10

I am getting involved in a project where we want to roll out Windows 10 to users but the latency to some of the sites is high - between 300ms and up to more than 500ms due to satcoms *Sad, plus we do not want to place any hardware on site other than the user devices i.e. no RODC, eexchange servers, etc.

I am concerned that the latency might cause authentication issues but am unable to find anything that suggests what the maximum latency is that can be tolerated. The users will log on with cached profiles therefore it wont be an issue for logon but it could be an issue if (when) they change passwords as we don't want this change to get out of sync as it could prevent them accessing Office 365 when they have a changed local password that hasn't sync'd back.

Any one have any practical experience of what the highest latency is that they have seen with acceptable working of Win10 (or any other win platform *Smile)

Windows 10 lag is back

Funny, I have no lag with Windows 10. (A more technical term is latency.)

Latency in computing could have thousands of causes, depending on the hardware, the configuration, installed software and the tasks you are performing.

To arrive at the conclusion that Windows 10 has more latency than an earlier version of Windows, you would have to do a clean install of both versions on identical hardware and then time common tasks on both.

 

Windows 10 High Dpc Latency

I believe DPC Latency Checker does not support WIN 10. Please try LatencyMon and check.

I had this issue so thought of sharing.

 

Are you using Edge browser? If so use Firefox or Chrome, Edge is not ready for prime time yet.

 

The browser is the least of my worries *Smile

BTW we are using IE11.

 

Well, I have multiple computers on multiple VLANs and don't have latency problem, with Windows 10. Are you using the latest Manufacturer Network drivers, not the generic Windows 10 provided drivers?

 

The issues are nothing to do with drivers, they are down to the laws of physics which become very apparent when you start using VSAT links as they typically 500ms plus as said originally *Smile

By the time the signal has travelled 45,000 miles you have quite a lot of delay, not quite like fibre optic in a big city *Wink
