Windows 10: Latest security update breaks Storage Spaces on Windows 10

Hello everyone,First, some background. I have installed all available updates for this machine and am current as of 01-20-2022 excepting the latest security update, KB5009543, which is breaking my storage space. This breaking of my storage space has happened the last two times I updated, most recently last night. The first time this happened, I determined that the issue is being caused by the security update by uninstalling all updates one at a time and testing for availability of the storage space after each removal. When the problem reoccurred following updates last night, I uninstalled the

Well just noticed a pretty large one pop up coming in at 914MB, seems it makes some pretty serous updates.

• 3169991 MS16-084: Cumulative security update for Internet Explorer: July 12, 2016

 

Windows 10 Storage Spaces Improvements?

We just released a couple of new Storage Spaces features with the
Windows 10 November update:

• Optimize drive usage to make the best use of all of your drives after adding drives
• Safely remove a drive from a pool by automatically moving data off the drive and onto other drives in the pool.

To make use of these features you'll have to install the

Windows 10 Storage Spaces rebalancing

I'm sorry to hear that you've been having problems optimizing your storage pool and removing disks. We made some improvements to this functionality in the

Windows 10 November update, so I'd suggest that you install that, upgrade your pool (if necessary), and then try using the Storage Spaces Control Panel to optimize drive usage and/or remove physical disks.
