    Hi,


    My laptop just installed the latest Win 10 update. I did not start it, did it automatically. My laptop was in the middle of doing something, my WD Elements external HDD was connected. I didn't know my laptop is going to update, as a result it was still plugged in when it happened.


    The laptop was left unattended, as I mentioned, it was in the middle of doing something, I was busy elsewhere, so I didn't realise the update is happening.


    As the device restarted, it was just when I got back to it, and I tried to open my external HDD, I couldn't. After a bit of an investigation, I found out that the drive is in RAW format, meaning for some reason the file system was wiped from it. As a result, I cannot access any of my data.


    I tried all, I tried plugging it into other machines, same issue.


    I do not want to format the drive, as I do not want to lose all my backed up photos and videos from the past few years.


    I didn't know this would happen, and frankly I don't understand why this would happen. Looking around the internet, this seems to be a common issue, not just with WD HDDs, but other ones as well, and not just with this latest update.


    So I would really like to know why is it that the Windows updates seem to wipe the file system from any HDD? If this is a bug, would you be able to finally fix it, seeing that it affects many of us constantly?


    I will now have to dedicate a reasonable amount of time to try and get my files back...Rest assured, I will try and avoid using Windows with my external HDDs from now on...
