Windows 10: Latest Windows 10 update as of 12.07.2018

I have a couple questions about the latest update that installed itself on my computer.


I came back from work today and turned on my laptop to see that the desktop looks like it is somebody else's...I mean, my background image changed, all desktop icons are gone except for the default ones (This PC, Recycle Bin, File Explorer, etc...), my browsing history on Google Chrome is gone along with the bookmarks, my documents have all been moved to a whole different folder other than "Documents" (which almost gave me a heart attack, thank you very much.), all of my game saves are deleted (or they could be somewhere on the PC, but I don't have the nerve to search for them), and my settings for my entire computer have been deleted and I have to restore them all over again...It looks like I just bought the computer or did a reinstall of Windows on it...


I don't remember doing any adjustments or even reinstalling my system. Which only leads to one conclusion: there was an update....


My questions to you are: First, why did my computer initiate an update I wasn't even notified about in the coming weeks? And second, why were all of my files, settings, saves removed/moved/modified as if I reinstalled Windows WITHOUT MY PERMISSION?????!!!!!


Third question, is there any possibility to revert these settings back to, for example, yesterday?

Fourth question, how do I disable updates going forward (I was perfectly content with the version before this one)?


Fifth question, what is the name of the current update that installed on my computer? Since you have access to it, anyway...

Well just noticed a pretty large one pop up coming in at 914MB, seems it makes some pretty serous updates.

Hi Kevin,

Browsing capability in certain websites depends on the status of you Internet connection. For now, I need your help to perform the following to further isolate your concern with your network connection:

Step 1 – Test the connectivity between your computer and the website you’re trying to visit. For example:
Ping www.microsoft.com server
then tell us the result through a screenshot.

1. Press Windows key + R to open the run window.
2. Type cmd, then press Enter.
3. Type ping www.microsoft.com
   and press Enter.
   • If you receive 4 replies, it means that your connection with the site is working properly.
     
   • If you got a request time out, it means that your connection has issues.

Step 2 - Reboot the Network Device.

1. Switch off your switch or router, wait for 10-20 seconds and plug it back in.
2. Wait for about 30 secs to reboot.
3. After rebooting your router, proceed to the next step below.

Step 3 - Scan your PC for viruses and malwares by using Windows Defender.

1. Press Windows + S to open Search Box.
2. Type Windows Defender, then click it.
3. In Home tab, click Full then click Scan now.
4. Wait for the process to finish. If there are any findings after the scan, send us the screenshot.

Step 4 – Check the status of your Internet connection. You can test it here:
www.speedtest.net.
