    Hello,

I have tried to delay updating as much as possible, but Microsoft got me this past weekend. No trouble until today. Suddenly I could not see my networked drives, nor see most of the files on my computer. Could not navigate, kept freezing, mydesktop disappeared, and my taskbar was gone. there was no way to go anywhere. windows file explorer was dead. I checked event viewer and found that KB 4579311 had installed itself today when I restarted my computer!!! I'm thinking that was the major culprit.

I read on here about troubles other have had. So i managed to restart 4 times as suggested. The file names and the drives reappeared, but I could not click on them and go anywhere. The computer froze as before. I am networked to an old win xp computer with some legacy software, and that could not be contacted, but then again neither could my win 7 computer.

I managed to get into Windows updates, and did the recovery where it took me back to the last build. According to all the info if I did it within 10 days, the old files could be restored.

Suddenly as if by magic, all my drives and files could be seen and connected to. Everything works like a charm!!!

How do I manage to not ever have to install those updates again? I have set the delay to 35 days, but I know they will start spamming me with the update notes - do it now? or in an hour? I kept youtube on 24/7 during the week playing long videos to trick the machine into thinking I was using it, but I fell down on the job last weekend.

    :)

    Update Broke Computer Need Help!

    Windows 10 Upgrade
According to this list, your PC isn't on Acer's approved list for Win 10. Could you check that?

This is an older PC which came with Win 7. Have you ever clean installed Win 10 on it?

    • AMD Athlon II X2 255 Dual Core Processor
    • Windows 7 Professional
    • 2GB DDR3 RAM
    • 320GB HDD
    • DVD Rewriter
    • Integrated Graphics
    • PS.VB1E3.082

We can only proceed step by step.

So chkdsk and SFC /Scannow are ok. But any attempt to reset your PC or run DISM fails.

Is this what you tried? I'm not 100% clear what the above means. Clean install or this procedure?
Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade - Windows 10 Forums

If you tried this, it's possible it failed as you need (it seems) some 500Mb of unallocated space on your hard disk.

Windows 10 Version 1703 Creator's Update Broke My Computer

I feel like I am so close to fixing this. Here's my latest update, after yet another restart after trying another suggestion and it failing. I can open Windows Store, if I go into search and pull up an app. The store will open and is operational, but it still doesn't show up under start and there is no icon on the taskbar. But it asks me if I want to launch but the other box is grayed out. Same with sticky notes, except when I click launch nothing happens. Here's the screen grabs to show what I'm talking about.
