Windows 10: Latest Windows 10 Update said it Scanned & Repaired My External Drive but Broke It Instead!

I used my external hard drive last night without issue. I opened and edited a few files and had no problems. Then I woke up this morning and noticed a pending update, and my computer needed to restart. So I did what I always do before installing a new Windows update. I checked to see if Alienware had any updates, reviewed and updated Microsoft store apps then installed the update. During the update, I noticed it was taking longer than usual on the Alienware loading screen. Windows defender custom scan does not scan external drives

I have Defender Windows 10. I tried using custom scan to select and scan external drives. The screen listing the drives comes up, but the "OK" button remains grayed out so unable to scan any of the drives listed. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi Joe,

to scan external drives using Windows Defender, follow the steps provided below.

• Open Windows Defender.
• Go to Settings tab.
• Select the Advanced option.
• tick the checkbox for Scan removable drives.
