Windows 10: Latest Windows Update changed/erased all recent programs/activity

I am so pissed & upset right now!! I had just transferred all my files from old computer, then ran update and now everything is gone. /cry I hadn't done a restore, so I think it may all be gone for good. I searched this issue & found an article about this from 2011. It's been a known issue for over 10 years & you haven't fixed it yet nor provide any warnings about it, so people don't lose all their files!!! I am really hoping someone here can tell me it is somehow possible to get all my erased files back.

Windows program to secure erase files only

I tried doing a search and only found optimal ways to fully erase a disc. Since there are a ton of programs I thought it best to just ask for a current recommendation. I would like to erase a few folders only on a W7 machine and do not need a full time paid program.

Follow these steps to view installed updates:

• 
  Press “Windows key + X” and click on “Programs and Features”.
  
• 
  Click on “View Installed Updates”.
