Latest Windows update turned every single word document into a ".docx" file, ruined...

    Hey Community,

My computer begged me to install the latest infamous Windows update as it typically does on my Dell XPS. After agreeing to restart the computer, I come to find out that every single document I have has been converted from a word document to a ".docx" document, and opens in WordPad instead of word. All of the college essays, notes I've taken, projects I'm working on, and everything else written in word is now permanently stuck in a format that I cannot submit to my college. This is not something I chose during the update or did beforehand obviously. Windows just took it upon itself to make the conversions for me.

Additionally, my headphone audio is now different and sounds terrible. The audio sounds way too bassy and it sounds like I'm listening through a seashell. Nothing is clear as it was before, and I have no idea how to fix it.

And to add insult to injury, my wallpaper is gone that I haven't changed in three years and so is the file that goes along with it.

Of course, the most crucial of issues is all my documents becoming .docx files. How on earth do I go about fixing that? Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

    Thank you!

    :)

Word 2010 documents (docx) are not editable in Word Mobile 6.1, but Word 2007 docxs are.

Hi. I am using Microsoft Office 2010 (x64) while my device has Windows Mobile 6.1. When I open a 2010 docx file, Word mobile loads it but an error say "This document is protected. You will not be able to edit this document". I cannot edit, only copy (clipboard)
operation available. No such error if I open a 2007 docx file.

Those 2010 docx files do not have read-only flag in file explorer, nor password protected. Which settings in my Word 2010 that are wrong? I cannot save the document as 2007 docx in Word 2010, it always saved as 2010 docx. I don't want to save it as 2003
doc file, because at later time I cannot add smart art or other sophisticated features of Word 2010.

My workaround now is to create blank document in Word 2007 (on another PC) and save it as "Editable in PDA.dotx" then I use it to "instantiate" new document whenever I need the file can be edited on device. But I also don't like Word 2010 shows the text "[Compatibility
    Mode]" on its title bar.

I don't know which one of them is faulty - Word 2010 or Word Mobile 6.1.

  3. Microsoft Wordpad Missing Docx Save Type

    Hi Mark,

Updated WordPad versions cannot save files in .doc or .docx format anymore, unlike the previous versions. For us to convert the .txt file to .docx format, we suggest that you follow these steps:

    • Right-click on the .txt file. Select Open with, and then click on
      Choose another app.
    • How do you want to open this file? window will pop up. If you can't see the
Word app from the list of options, click on More apps, and the select
      Word.
    • The document will now open in Word app. Click on File tab.
    • On the left pane, select Save As.
    • On the right pane, select Word Document (*.docx) from the drop down box.
    • Click on Save button.

Let us know if the steps above helped you to resolve your concern.

Hidden ~$.docx files make OneDrive seem stuck on syncing Word documents

    Hello,

I noticed that when uploading certain Word documents to a folder on OneDrive, the folder is showing a syncing icon while the Word document inside the folder is already finished uploading. When selecting to show hidden system files, I can see that OneDrive
is stuck on uploading a hidden Word file called ~$[name of document].docx.

The Word document is closed and I don't know if this hidden ~$ .docx file is important or not.

To solve this syncing icon bug on OneDrive, can I safely delete this hidden ~$.docx file without causing any trouble?
