Windows 10: Latitude E6420 - Intel HD Graphics 3000 & Nvidia - Max resolution low

Even though the 14 inch laptop panel supports 1600x900 (Dell part number MJ154) the max resolution i can pick is 1366 x 768. No higher options are shown

Am running Windows 10 64 bit and i tried some 2015 drivers from Karl Sabo but no joy. I realise that Dell dont officially support this old laptop, but it works fine in all other respects.

I also tried downloading an Intel driver utility but it scanned the laptop and said there were no suitable drivers

I noticed in Device Manager that the laptop screen is detected as "Generic PnP monitor". Could that be why its limiting the res, as it doesnt know what the panel is capable of ?

Interested to know if anyone has their 6420 running higher resolutions....thanks

Intel HD Graphics 3000 code 43 after Creators Update

I have the exact same problem and did the same procedure 2 times like you on Dell Latitude E6420 with an Intel HD Graphics 3000 and an i5 processor. Did not find any solution yet. Worst Creator self reinstall and did not find how to stop it to stay on
release 1607.

 

Lenovo b570 drivers for windows 10

is there Drivers for windows 10 .and i can't change resolution .and intell hd graphics 3000 not working and can't install

 

There seems to be alot of people have resolution issues at the moment with intel graphics and windows 10 it seems to be a driver issue. Can you create a custom resolution via your gpu control panel and force 1600 x 900? If this doesnt work you should get in touch with Lenovo they may have a fix , or you may just have to wait for intel to catch up *Shock

OP, are you sure your LCD panel has a 1600x900 max resolution?

 

Indeed its a Dell. I based the screen res on what the Dell support page says for the specific config of my laptop. Based on the service tag it says it left the factory with
"Display @ 36.6cm (14,0in) High Definition+ (1600x900) LED backlit"
And i doubt the screen has been changed since then.
The bugger is that a key application i use was written for higher res, and i cant see parts of the screen (the developer didnt think to support scrolling up/down !)

 

Problem solved (well not, but am stuck with it). The BIOS config says the screen is 1366 max, so thats why i cant make it go any higher !!!

 

I am guessing you bought it used? I wouldn't be surprised that it originally had a 1600x900 screen and was replaced with a lower res screen if the original screen broke or stopped working. Many people don't even know what resolution their screens have and go for the cheaper option when they need to replace it.

 

a bit of an update on this in case anyone is interested. I was running over VGA to my external monitor which also wouldnt got above 1366 x 768, but having plugged in the HDMI cable it now offers me up to 1900 x 1200 on the external monitor, so thats a bit of a win...my application now runs fine so long as i use the external monitor *Smile
