What should every new computer owner know about PCs without windows reinstallation media?

What I would like to see is one page of instructions everyone should see upon opening their new computer and discovering no installation media is included.

It is easy enough to research the various related questions but I have gotten conflicting answers. IMO my rights should not be voided by insufficient internet research. These things should be clearly stated somewhere, in one place. Hopefully at some point
the computer manufacturers will take on this responsibility. My last ASUS purchase did not even have an app prompting me to make recovery media. Lacking that it would be great if someone could provide such a page here.

These are the sorts of things I would like to see covered but I may well be forgetting entire topics, and those may be even more important than the things I know I don't know:

What rights do you have to the OS? Where are they embodied? For example:

    • How do you know if it has a legal copy of windows installed?
    • I'm aware of a validation step and also that little grey windows 8 sticker with no serial number. Do either of these provide me with something I can show to another person to demonstrate my rights? If my hard disk dies can I point to that sticker and ask
a technician to reinstall windows? Has that validation step published anything online I can access as evidence even if my computer is dead?
    • If I have upgraded to pro, or to windows 10 during the free upgrade period, what expresses my right to either?

What is the minimum backup media I should create before doing anything? I'm aware of three options

    • Recovery drive (found by searching inside control panel) - My understanding is that this the closest thing to your own original installation disk. I sort of suspect the first thing you should ever do the day you get your new computer is
get your flash drive (currently seems to need 16gb) make this recovery disk and then TEST IT.
      • But if it doesn't work and you now have no operating system whose responsibility is that? Maybe the third party flash drive was faulty.
      • And what If I paid for an upgrade to pro or grabbed the free upgrade to windows 10? I suspect the recovery disk will only restore the old OS and I'm not sure if can then upgrade to pro or 10 without paying.
    • Repair disk (hidden inside system recovery link at bottom right of file history panel inside control panel) - I'm hazy on the difference and if I need this in addition to the recovery disk.
    • System Image (hidden inside system recovery link at bottom right of file history panel inside control panel) - Well I tried that and after a day it told me there new error clusters. CHCKDSK showed nothing. I looked online and saw third party sites saying
this was a spurious warning and the fix was to shrink and then expand your OS partition. Might work. Or maybe they are practical jokers sniggering away in their armpits. A system Image is potentially a huge timesaver but I think it is not exactly relevant
to this conversation. You should be able to do a fresh install without accumulated junk if you want to.
