Windows 10: Left click in new Photos app selects the photo instead of opening it

As the title suggests. This morning I got an updated version of the Photos app. Before, when I clicked a photo with a left click, it opened it full size, it only selects it, and it is really annoying. How do I change it?Also, there are no separations according to months or weeks when I scroll through my photos. It is only one long scroll with the top left showing which month it is. I would like to change those as well.

Photos are opening with Paint instead of Photos app

It's likely that your default application for opening photos is Paint. To change your default program in Windows 10 from
Paint to the Photo app, we suggest that you perform the following steps:

• On the Start menu, select Settings.
  
• Go to System, then go to Default apps.
  
• Select Photos or any app that you like to be the default under
  Photo viewer.

Open with another app 'photos'


When you choose photos and select 'open with' it gives a selection of apps. In the list I see the apps but one that looks odd is labelled %1 and has a generic app icon. It's almost as if it's some kind of old or broken program that doesn't exist. All the other programs like paint and photos are in the list as they should be but this is a rogue one. Does anyone else see this?

I did as you suggested and there was no option to set the default for photos viewer for photos. The only option it gave to select was PAINT.

I went to "set default by app" and changed those to use photos instead of paint. After changing those and these restarting my computer I then got the option to set the default for photo view to photos.

It took quite a bit of time to change all of these apps one at a time.

That was the only way I found to change the Photo Viewer Default to Photos.

There should be an easier method.
