Legacy or UEFI Boot mode for new SATA SSD?

Hello!! I am using a Lenovo V310 14ISK laptop which is set to Legacy boot mode by default. Now I want to install a SATA SSD in place of my old HDD and use it as a boot drive while keeping HDD in the DVD drive bay and use it for storing photos, videos etc.So will I have to change the boot mode from Legacy to UEFI before installing Windows on SSD? Or I can keep the default settings i.e Legacy boot and install Windows on SSD?Also what should be the partition style for new SSD? MBR or GPT?Can anyone please clear my doubts regarding these points so that I can do a smooth Windows installation on my

    UEFI vs Legacy boot mode

I just found out I'm running at "Legacy" boot mode.
Are there any downsides running my Skylake system in "Legacy" boot mode?

I don't really want to reinstall windows.
Also I have no problems with my SSD, speeds are as they should be.

Just booting up my system takes some time, maybe it just would be faster booting with UEFI?
My Asus Gaming laptop is booting up faster.
If thats the main difference *Oh Well Legacy or UEFI Boot mode for new SATA SSD? :eek:hwell:

  3. UEFI vs Legacy boot mode

You're all good. With UEFI boot partitions can be over 2TB, but that means reformatting drive to GPT.........prob not something you'd want to do....(or me *Smile Legacy or UEFI Boot mode for new SATA SSD? :))
You aren't missing out on much., as mentioned above. Maybe Secure Boot......bleh *Stick Out Tongue Legacy or UEFI Boot mode for new SATA SSD? :p

Legacy or UEFI Boot mode for new SATA SSD?

    UEFI vs Legacy boot mode

Yep, UEFI mode with Win 10 loading I get the Asus logo.

IIRC there maybe an option within motherboard UEFI to disable the Asus logo but not looked into it. On another forum I have read that what logo you get at Win 10 loading is the easiest way to know what bios mode OS is in.

If system is booting in legacy mode - you get Windows Logo.
If system is booting in UEFI mode - you get OEM logo.

Above also applies to Win 8 but not Win 7.
