Windows 10: Legacy Software runs on Win10 1803 but not Win10 1909

    Legacy Software runs on Win10 1803 but not Win10 1909


    I'm running some legacy software -- Franklin Covey Franklin Planner Software. I've got 20 years of data in these files and really want to access them. At the end of 2018 I bought a laptop with Win10 Home build 1803 pre-installed. It runs that Franklin Planner software just fine. Last week I bought a laptop with Win10 Home S build 1909 pre-installed. I registered it and turned off S mode. The Franklin Planner software installed without giving any error message. But when I run it, I get the message "No DLL extensions were loaded." It then loads and runs the software, but doesn't show the database modules.


    Both these computers are 64 bit. The Franklin Planner software is 32 bit. Looking at them side by side, the installations look identical, with the same .dlls and other files in the same places. Both are running off 128GB SSDs. The one with the 1803 build has an Intel chip, the one with the 1909 build has an Athlon.


    I reinstalled vcredist for both 64 bit and X86 on the new computer in case it was missing one of those .dlls, but no difference.


    It's driving me crazy. I have the feeling there's some little switch or toggle on the 1909 build that I'm missing, but I can find it.


    Does anyone have a suggestion?

    Win10: windows update stuck at never ending loop ?

    When in win10:
    • Update&security -> Windows update -> Finding update... .... .... ....
    Planning to download the latest Win10.ISO (vers.1803) and manually update:
    - Then wait that my ordered new SSD arrives and clone the old HDD to it.

    What is the latest stable build of Win10 ?

    look Bill, it's not just hardware but software as well. proprietary apps from PC Makers like Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, Lenovo & Toshiba have to update their software to work with newer builds of Win10.
