Windows 10: Legacy & UEFI Boot on Older vs Newer versions of Windows 10

Hello!We have a issue at work with our MDT 2013 production server.We were running a older version of Windows 10 ADK on our WDS server, were we could deploy etc. Windows 10 1703.Then we made a new image with Windows 10 20H2, but we couldnt deploy it on the server, then we updated the Windows 10 ADK to the newest version and then the deployment of the new image was successfull, but now we cant deploy older versions like 1703 on the WDS server, how so?We are running on older labtops like HP EliteBook 8460p, and when we deploy a new image on the laptop, we have to enable UEFI Boot in the BIOS, why

UEFI vs Legacy boot mode

Yep, UEFI mode with Win 10 loading I get the Asus logo.

IIRC there maybe an option within motherboard UEFI to disable the Asus logo but not looked into it. On another forum I have read that what logo you get at Win 10 loading is the easiest way to know what bios mode OS is in.

If system is booting in legacy mode - you get Windows Logo.
If system is booting in UEFI mode - you get OEM logo.

Above also applies to Win 8 but not Win 7.

 

Trouble installing windows 7 on RAID in UEFI

As the title says, I'm trying to install Windows on a RAID array in uefi on my Maximus V Formula. When using legacy ROM I can install just fine but I go into CSM and change settings to UEFI only, I can build the array in the UEFI Raid driver (IRST tab in "BIOS") but the array does not show up in the boot menu and when I try to install windows (boot from UEFI DVD drive), The drive does not show up in the Windows install. The next thing I tried was to enable UEFI and legacy oprom in CSM, boot from UEFI DVD drive and install to the RAID array (probably detected by legacy oprom) and it will install. After first reboot, Windows Boot manager will show up as an option in the BIOS boot menu so I set that as first boot device and reboot. I will get to the starting windows screen and then BSOD (too quick to get codes) The last thing I tried was Changing to legacy mode and installing windows to a different drive. once installed, I initialized the Raid array as GPT and rebooted, changed csm back to UEFI only but they RAID array still doesn't show in the boot device list so I repeated the earlier process hoping that It might work because I had initialized as GPT but it still BSODs on starting windows screen. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

No, Windows 10 works just fine on legacy BIOS systems. New devices that that come preinstalled with Windows 10 later this summer must have UEFI by default and Secure Boot enabled at the factory.

Does this mean I won't be able to dual boot with alternative operating systems and older versions of Windows?

Not necessarily, even though Secure Boot is enabled by default, you can still disable it in order to accommodate older versions of Windows or alternative operating systems.
